Biography summary

Dr Anita Lal is a Victorian Cancer Agency Early Career Research fellow at Deakin Health Economics, Deakin University. Anita completed her PhD in 2018, exploring ways of incorporating equity into cost-effectiveness analysis for obesity prevention policies, as part of the NHMRC funded Centre for Research Excellence in Obesity Policy and Food Systems. She was awarded a Dean's Research Postdoctoral fellowship in 2019 to analyse the impact of socioeconomic position on bowel cancer patients’ healthcare utilisation and long-term health outcomes of the bowel screening program in South Australia.  Her current research, funded by the Victorian Government and in collaboration with the Cancer Council Victoria, is focused on the equity impacts and cost-effectiveness of targeted programs to increase bowel, breast and cervical cancer screening in under-screened culturally and linguistically diverse groups in Victoria. She is a member of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance Equity Advisory Group and co-chair of the Australian Health Economics Society's Health Equity Special Interest group.
