EmPr Christine Ure

Alfred Deakin Professor Christine Ure was the Acting Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education until January, 2021. She commenced the position of Head of School of Education at Deakin in 2012. The School has established a strong reputation for research and teaching and was ranked 4, or above world standard in the 2015 ERA ranking, and 30 in the world in the 2018 Quacquarelli Symonds discipline ranking for Education and 5 in Australia.

Professor Ure is a leader in the national debate around teacher education policy and reform and is National convenor of the Network of Associate Deans of Professional Experience and member of the board of the Australian Council of Deans of Education. She is also a member of the Victorian Government Teacher Supply and Demand Reference Group and the Minister's Expert Panel for Schools, and was from 2012 to 2017, the President of the Victorian Council of Deans of Education.

Professor Ure has led many major initiatives in teacher education at Deakin, including the development of the Teaching Academies Model for professional experience in initial teacher education. This model sets a new standard and approach for school and university partnerships in teacher education. She is committed to improving quality outcomes for schools and has provided leadership for the development of two new Graduate Certificate programs for Education Business Leadership and Education Research that are designed to promote greater use of evidence in the provision of teaching and resources for learning in schools. In 2014-2017 she had oversight of the Skilling the Bay Project, Successful Students - STEM Program, that was designed to build teaching capability in secondary schools and promote student awareness and future employment opportunities in STEM related industries.

Professor Ure has extensive experience in the management of teacher education projects in Australia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, India and Vietnam. Her most recent research and development activities have focused on how the learning goals and design of services and programs meet the educational needs of users and systems. In 2017 she was a lead investigator for a major research consultancy regarding the professional development of senior educational managers in Vietnam.
