Results FAQ

If you have any questions or concerns about your assessment, or the outcome of your results, it is best to speak to your Unit Chair or Unit Coordinator. You can find their contact details on the Find Deakin Staff on the Contact us page.

In the meantime - here are some answers to questions you may have.

When are results released?

The Result Release page has the times and dates for each study periods result release.  It also tells you how you can register to receive your results by SMS or view them on StudentConnect.

I think I've finished my course, how do I apply to graduate?

Firstly - woohoo! If you think you have completed all the requirements for your course, check out the Graduation website for more details.

Can I request to see my exam paper?

Routine feedback will not normally be provided to students for individual exam papers. Contact your Unit Chair if you have further queries.

Can I request a review of my result?

You may apply to the Unit Chair to check the administrative accuracy of your result.

There is also a formal process to apply for a review of result through each Faculty Academic Progress and Discipline Committee (FAPDC) within 5 working days release of results. The procedure is outlined in the Assessment (Higher Education Courses) Procedure. Before starting this process, you should discuss this with your Faculty.  The Review of Result process may result in your grade/mark being marked higher or lower. These webpages below provide links to each Faculty's process for Review of Results.

There is no fee charged to request a review of your results.

Am I eligible for a pass conceded?

You may be eligible for a pass conceded (PC) if you are one credit point short of completing your course and meet certain other conditions.  The eligibility criteria are outlined in the Assessment (Higher Education Courses) procedure.  Refer to your Faculty site below for further information and the process to apply.

Can I apply for Final Unit to Complete Supplementary Assessment?

If you are one credit point short of completing your course, you may wish to apply for supplementary assessment if you meet certain other conditions.

Final Unit to Complete supplementary assessment can only be granted where:

(a)    the conditions for awarding a pass conceded have been met, but a pass conceded cannot be awarded due to professional registration or accreditation requirements

(b)   the conditions for awarding a pass conceded have not been met, but the student is one credit point short of completing their course and was awarded a mark between 40 and 49% (inclusive) for a unit that they attempted in the last 12 months.

The eligibility criteria are outlined in clauses 46-51 of the Assessment (Higher Education Courses) procedure.

Arts and Education - Applications must be made within five working days of release of results. Refer to Arts and Education – Final Unit to Complete

Business and Law - Applications are not required. Eligible students will be contacted by email directly after the release of results.

Health - Applications must be made within five working days of release of results. Refer to Health – Final Unit to Complete

Science, Engineering and Built Environment - Applications are not required. Eligible students will be contacted by email directly after the release of results. Refer to SEBE – Final Unit to complete

I applied for a pass conceded, should I re-enrol in case it is unsuccessful?

It is recommended that students re-enrol but it is the student's responsibility to check withdrawal dates, fees and penalties in case the grade is successful. Study-at-Deakin

How do I find my assignment grade?

If you can't find your grade for an assignment on Deakin Sync, then you will need to contact your Unit Chair via their contact details, which can be found on Deakin Sync. The grade for your entire unit will be available on Deakin Sync at the end of each Trimester.

What does RIE mean?

Result not finalised, a special examination has been granted in response to an application for Special Consideration.

When will my RIE (results not finalised) mark be finalised?

You should expect to receive your results within 10 working days after the completion of the Supplementary/Special exam period. If you do not receive your result by this time, please contact your Unit Chair.

What does RIA mean?

Result not finalised, a special assessment task has been granted in response to an application for Special Consideration.

What does RI mean?

Result incomplete/not finalised as it was not possible to finalise an individual student's result at the time of result publication.

What does ** mean?

Result not yet received from the Faculty for publishing.

I have failed a unit/s, what should I do now?

If you have failed a unit or units, your Course Advisor can help. They can sit down with you, give you advice and look at your course rules to get you on the right path.

Key to results and grades

Final results are always whole numbers and do not have decimal places.

How do I register to receive my results by SMS?

Your results can be sent straight to your phone via SMS half an hour before they are available on StudentConnect. To register log in to StudentConnect and under 'Assessments & Exams', select the option 'Register for SMS Results'.

I received my results by SMS last trimester. Do I need to register again?

No, once you have registered you'll get your results by SMS each study period until you finish your course.

My mobile phone number has changed. How do update this to receive my results by SMS?

Log into StudentConnect and under 'Assessments & Exams', select the option 'Register for SMS Results'. Once selected, click the 'Update' button next to the 'Postal Address' field. From here update your mobile phone number and click on 'Submit'.

I do not want to receive my results by SMS anymore. How do I withdraw from the SMS service?

Log into StudentConnect and under 'Assessments & Exams', select the option 'Register for SMS Results'. Once selected, click the 'Update' button next to 'Would you like to receive your results via SMS' next to the 'Postal Address mobile number?'. In 'SMS Results (YES/NO):' change the 'Yes' to 'No' and click on 'Submit'.

What is the format of the SMS message for results?

The format of the message will be:

Your Trimester 1 Unit Results are: <unit_code>-<mark><grade>; 

For example a message may look like:
Your Trimester 1 Unit Results are: MSC709-68C; MSC751-51P;

If there is no result for a unit, the mark and grade will be displayed as an asterisk.

For example a message where there is no result for a unit may look like:
Your Trimester 1 Unit Results are: MSC709-***; MSC751-51P;

How this is displayed will depend on your mobile phone. Unfortunately we cannot format the text to fit neatly into the window of every type of mobile phone.

Can I respond to the number that sent my results via SMS?

Can I pass a unit even if I don't submit all of the assessment items?

All units will have different hurdle requirements. You will need to refer to your unit guide for information on your specific hurdle requirements. If you require more help, speak with your unit chair..
