Trauma-informed practice
Deakin is the only university in Australia to embed the Berry Street Education Model into all our initial teaching degrees. This means you’ll graduate with practical, trauma-informed strategies and skills to develop safe, healthy and engaging learning environments that build positive relationships and promote academic success.
Professional experience
Our Professional Experience Program gives you real-life teaching experience and study credit for your degree. You'll undertake at least 80 days in undergraduate study of guaranteed placements with some of our 1400 participating schools and 500 early childhood centres and build sought-after skills.
Scholarships
Deakin offers scholarships at all levels of study, supporting students from all walks of life. The Victorian Government also offers scholarships up to $25,000 to become an early childhood teacher.

Do you already hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent and want to upskill to become an early childhood teacher? Eligible students may receive up to 8 credit points of recognition for prior learning towards the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.

Deakin is the only university in Australia to embed the Berry Street Education Model into our initial teaching degrees. You’ll graduate with practical, trauma-informed strategies equipped for today's complex classrooms.
