Paramedicine practitioner

If you're ready for a new challenge, our paramedicine practitioner courses will help you expand your current clinical practice knowledge. Confidently transition into a wider range of primary care settings, including under-resourced rural and regional communities.

Get work-ready

Our progressive, real-world approach to learning will help you become a leader in the emerging paramedicine practitioner field. Clinical placements, offered as an elective unit, give you the opportunity to apply your newly acquired knowledge in a real-word context, adding experience to your resume and further developing your professional networks.

Postgraduate (further study)

A postgraduate qualification can be undertaken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree or possess significant, demonstrable work experience. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters and PhDs, as well as specialist programs for industry professionals.

Career opportunities

If you're an experienced paramedic, our courses provide a training program and pathway that leads to an expanded scope of practice and career opportunities. You'll graduate with key skills and strategies enabling you to effectively care for, educate, engage and collaborate with patients, carers, communities, colleagues and other health professionals.

This unique discipline, helping those already competent in clinical practice take the next step in their careers, is one of very few in existence around Australia. With Deakin's excellent history of specialising in health in rural and regional areas where there is increased demand for this profession, you'll be ready to take on your new role with confidence.

Contributing to regional and rural healthcare

The paramedic practitioner role is an innovative way of delivering healthcare to regional and rural communities, and with a significant medical workforce shortage in these areas, the demand for skilled practitioners is high. Our courses have a specific rural and regional focus, so you'll become familiar with the challenges and rewards associated with practising in the country, and graduate with a competitive edge.

As regions grow, paramedic practitioners are expected to play a pivotal role in the alternative rural health models of care being proposed due to health workforce shortages in rural and remote areas. Upskilled paramedic practitioners will help fill the ongoing shortfall and make a true difference in healthcare across the country.

Get straight into the action

If you undertake our Australasian College of Paramedic Practitioners (ACPP) Fellowship stream, you'll complete 300 hours of clinical placement at a setting such as a hospital, general practice or community health facility. Gain valuable experience and further develop your professional networks so that you graduate confident and ready to take the next step in your career.

Make a change that's right for you

You'll be equipped to expand your clinical practice by conducting more comprehensive patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing expanded health management in order to provide more complete episodes of care.

Industry recognition

The Master of Advanced Clinical Practice (Paramedicine Practitioner) was designed in accordance with the ACPP accreditation requirements. If you complete the ACPP Fellowship stream, you'll be eligible to apply for fellowship with the organisation.***
