The Victorian Government offers various scholarships to support you with the cost of studying and living.

Undergraduate secondary teaching scholarships

When you study an undergraduate secondary teaching course at Deakin, you may be eligible to receive up to $18,000 as part of the support provided by the Victorian Government to become a secondary teacher. Eligible undergraduate courses include:

Postgraduate secondary teaching scholarships

When you study a postgraduate secondary teaching course at Deakin, you may be eligible to receive up to $9000 as part of the support provided by the Victorian Government to become a secondary teacher. Eligible postgraduate courses include:

Early childhood teaching scholarships

The Victorian Government also offers $12,000 to $25,000 to support you in becoming an early childhood teacher. If you’re starting out or upskilling, scholarships are available for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Inclusive education teaching scholarship

If you’re interested in studying inclusive education, the Victorian Government offers postgraduate scholarships to support your study. Eligible course includes:

Employment-based pathways

The Victorian Government Early Childhood Tertiary Partnership courses offer employment-based options for students to complete study online, while working in the sector. Visit Deakin’s early childhood teaching employment-based pathway for the details.

We also offer a supported, paid pathway into teaching within Victorian government secondary schools with Deakin’s Regional and Inclusive Secondary Education (RISE) – a Victorian Government-funded program delivered through Teach Today for eligible Master of Teaching (Secondary) students.

Pre-Service Teacher Placement Grants Program

The Victorian Government now has grants available to support pre-service teachers completing a teaching placement in an eligible regional, remote or specialist Victorian government school. 

Australian Government scholarships

The Australian Government offers the following scholarships.

Commonwealth teaching scholarships

Scholarships of $40,000 per student are available for full-time undergraduate initial teacher education (ITE) students ($10,000 per year for a four-year qualification) and $20,000 for full-time postgraduate ITE students ($10,000 per year for a two-year qualification). The Commonwealth teaching scholarships aim to attract high-achieving students into the teaching profession and are available over five rounds from 2024 to 2028, with up to 1,000 scholarships offered per year.

Rural and regional student scholarships

These Government scholarships can help you with moving costs, or help toward the cost of undergraduate or postgraduate study. See if you're elegible for the Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships or Tertiary Access Payment.

Tertiary health study subsidies

NSW Health offers two types of Tertiary Health Study Subsidy (THSS) to support students studying eligible health qualifications. In 2026, 2,000 subsidies will be awarded for each type.

Students commencing study can receive up to $12,000, paid over three years ($4,000 per year), if studying an eligible health qualification and intending to work for NSW Health for at least five years after graduation.

Students graduating study can receive a one-off $8,000 payment if they have completed an eligible health qualification, commenced work with NSW Health in that qualification and commit to working there for at least five years.
