Deakin University has revealed its most popular courses for 2024, with health, business and sport-related fields the most in-demand by school-leavers in the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre's (VTAC) December round of offers.

Exercise and Sport Science topped applicants' wish lists, with prospective students vying to study at the best sports science school in the world, as named by the ShanghaiRankings Global Ranking for the fifth time in 2023.

Nursing and Business were the second and third most sought-after courses, while health-related fields Psychology (Honours), Psychological Science and Biomedical Science were other top picks.

Arts, Science and Commerce continued to be popular, and Health Sciences recorded a jump in interest.

A total of 5647 first-round offers were made by Deakin, including 1766 across the University's regional campuses in Warrnambool and Geelong.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Teaching and Learning, Professor Helen Partridge, wished school-leavers well for the next stage of their journey.

Professor Partridge said the University was pleased to offer places to those eyeing tertiary studies at Deakin, including those who lived in regional areas and wanted accessible higher-education options closer to home.

"Deakin has a proud track record of offering courses that are not just popular but that prepare our students for the jobs of the future," she said.

"Our health-related courses continue to be highly sought-after as the nation faces unprecedented demand for experts in these professions. Our School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is the best in the world, drawing students from far and wide to study with us. We are also the top-ranked university in Victoria for student satisfaction.

"New students can expect to learn from some of the best experts in their field at Deakin and can be confident they will find themselves in a supportive and engaging learning environment that embraces new technologies, ways of learning, and that strives for academic excellence.

"Whether they be a recent high-school graduate or someone hoping to advance their career or study for a career change, Deakin is committed to helping students achieve their potential."

Professor Partridge added that further study offers would be made throughout January and February 2024, followed by other opportunities to apply directly to study at Deakin.

This includes offers for some courses which did not make offers in the December round. Offers will also be made to students whose results were not available in time for the December offer round, including those studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) and some interstate students.

At the Warrnambool Campus, VTAC preferences for 2024 are promising with Nursing and Marine Science expected to remain the most popular courses with the new Bachelor of Occupational Therapy registering strong interest.

Direct applications and international offers are still being progressed, which will assist in the translation to enrolments in the New Year.

Mature-age students and those coming from other non-school environments can expect to receive offers at a later date.
