Deakin Alumni Make a Difference Competition

If you win this month's competition, you can make a positive impact on a community or your own friends and family. It is a prize for you but it is a chance for you to make others happy too and we are looking forward to hearing how.

Perhaps you would like to volunteer in another location, or do an internship somewhere – as long as it will make a positive impact on those around you, please submit your entry by 9am AEST on 25 September 2018.

The email must include your full name, course studied at Deakin, graduation year and must be sent from your preferred email address because your details provided will be used to update the Deakin Alumni Community Portal database if the email address from which the submission is sent does not match what is currently on file.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The promoter of this competition is Deakin University ABN 56 721 584 203 of 1 Gheringhap Street, Geelong VIC 3220.

  1. Information on how to enter forms part of these Terms and Conditions. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and entries must comply with these Terms and Conditions to be valid.
  2. This competition is governed by the laws in force in the State of Victoria.

The Competition

  1. The competition is:
    1. Open to Deakin University alumni and is free to enter;
    2. Requires the Deakin University alumnus to submit a 300 word entry to deakinalumni@deakin.edu.au answering the question:

How would you use the $2000 travel and accommodation voucher to make a positive difference?

  1. The email must include your full name, course studied at Deakin, graduation year and must be sent from your preferred email address because entrants details provided will be used to update the Deakin Alumni Community Portal database if the email address from which the submission is sent does not match what is currently on file;
  2. Entrants also must have given Deakin University permission to contact them (ie they must not have not selected ‘no further email contact’ or ‘no further contact’ from Deakin University in their Deakin privacy settings).
  3. Staff employed by Deakin University Advancement portfolio are not eligible to enter the competition.
  4. Each alumni member can only have one entry in the competition.

Competition Period

  1. The competition commences at 9am AEST on 30 August 2018 and closes at 9am AEST on 25 September 2018.

    The Prize

    One alumni winner will be selected by the Deakin Alumni Relations team from the eligible entries, by determining what the Alumni team believe to be the best response to the question, How would you use the $2000 travel and accommodation voucher to make a positive difference?

  2. Criteria for selection will include:
    1. Length of submission (must be 300 words +/- 10%)
    2. Originality and lawfulness
    3. The submission is of publication standard
    4. The extent of positive impact that the voucher is likely to have based on the details in the entrants submission
    5. That the panel of judges can see in the entrants submission that the voucher will not only have a positive impact on the winner but also on other people whether that be a community, non-for-profit, their family or their friends
    6. Chance plays no part in determining the prize winners
  3. There is one prize awarded

    (1) First prize = AUD$2000 Corporate Travel Management travel and accommodation voucher

  4. The total prize pool is valued at AU$2000.

    How to Enter

  5. Deakin alumni entrants must send an email with their 300 word entry answering How would you use the $2000 travel and accommodation voucher to make a positive difference? Emails should be sent during the competition period to deakinalumni@deakin.edu.au from their preferred email address including the alumni members’ full name, course studied at Deakin and graduation year.
  6. The winner will be selected by the judging panel consisting of four staff members from the Deakin Alumni Relations team from the Deakin University Alumni Waurn Ponds Office and Deakin University Burwood Office at 5pm AEST 1 October 2018.
  7. The winner will be notified via email. The name of the winner will be published online at http://www.deakin.edu.au/alumni within 15 days of them being chosen.
  8. Where possible, the prize will be given to the winner in person at the Deakin University Burwood Campus, Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus or Deakin Downtown in Melbourne; if this is not possible to award the prize in person due to location, an e-voucher will be issued.
  9. If the winner does not respond to claim the prize within 14 days of being chosen, the winner will be rechosen within 21 days of the competition end date and the substituted winner will be notified as set out in paragraph 10.
  10. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be substituted for cash. Deakin University’s decision is final and binding - no correspondence will be entered into. Deakin accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected entries or other communications. Entries will be deemed void if forged, manipulated or tampered with in any way.
  11. Use of the Corporate Travel Management voucher is subject to the Terms of Conditions of Corporate Travel Management.
  12. Consent to Promotion
  13. Entrants consent to Deakin using their name, image or voice for promotional purposes on the Deakin alumni webpages, dKin alumni enewsletter, Deakin alumni Facebook page and Deakin alumni LinkedIn page. Winners agree to make themselves available for a photograph and interview in the event and if requested by Deakin.
  14. Entrants consent that their entries submitted in this competition may be republished for promotional purposes on the Deakin alumni webpages, dKin magazine, dKin Times alumni enewsletter, Deakin alumni Facebook page, Deakin alumni LinkedIn page and at Deakin alumni events.

Collection Statement

  1. Deakin University is collecting your personal information via email for the primary purposes of entering you into the Deakin Alumni Making a Difference Competition as well as updating your personal information in the Deakin Alumni Community portal.
  2. Deakin manages personal information, including requests by individuals for access to their personal information, in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2000 (Vic).  Deakin’s Privacy statement can be accessed at http://www.deakin.edu.au/footer/privacy .  The Deakin Privacy Policy is available from the Policy Library.
