A forum hosted at Deakin's Warrnambool campus could bring new research opportunities to south-west Victoria.

A team of Deakin researchers met with industry, business and community leaders to explain how the university's research capacity could be applied to the region.

Deakin University’s Warrnambool campus director, Alistair McCosh, said the forum would help local industry to better understand the university’s research capacity.

'Deakin has extensive research capability which could be used to develop innovative solutions to issues in the south-west,' said Mr McCosh.

The team that visited the Warrnambool campus included Pro Vice-Chancellor Researcher Development and Integrity Professor Aaron Russell, Director Deakin Research Commercial Dr Ben Spincer, Associate Professor Asim Bhatti, Director, Centre for Regional and Rural Futures Dr David Halliwell, Director, Deakin Software and Technology Innovation Laboratory Professor Kon Mouzakis and Director, Deakin Energy Dr Adrian Panow.

'We know we can help industry, the health and water sectors and other organisations across the south-west and hope this forum will open doors for more collaboration,' Mr McCosh said.

Several of the visiting researchers also went on-site with businesses to discuss potential projects.
