Biography summary

Professor Giovanni M. Turchini has a Masters degree in Animal Science and a doctorate (PhD) in Food Quality and Fish Nutrition, both from the University of Milan (Italy). In 2004 Giovanni moved to Australia, and established his career at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences of Deakin University at the Warrnambool Campus. During this time, Giovanni has been a recipient of two ARC funded Discovery fellowships, secured several national and international competitive grants, and developed a series of significant industry collaborations. From 2014 till 2016, Giovanni has been the Associate Head of School (Warrnambool). Since 2015 Giovanni is the Associate Head of School (Research) and is currently based at the Geelong, Waurn Ponds campus.
Giovanni’s research interests span from nutrition (animal and human) to aquaculture, food quality, lipids, fatty acid and omega-3 metabolism, fish oil replacement and fatty acid metabolism in cultured aquatic species, fatty acid-hormones and fatty acid-micronutrients interactions, seafood quality and traceability, and ethical issues encountered in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. Throughout his career, Giovanni has published extensively, including several book chapters and one edited book, and his work is highly cited and influential.
