Biography
Senior academic, a senior member of IEEE, and PhD with over 20 years of engineering, R&D, and management experience in ICT, energy, and oil & gas industries along with teaching and management experience in academia.
Hamid has been a scientist, an inventor, an entrepreneur, and winner of multiple scientific awards, and he is capable of providing professional expertise in the areas of electrical and the computer engineering, control systems, robotics, modelling, simulation, and optimisation.
Dr Hamid Abdi is currently a senior lecturer at the School of Engineering, Deakin University. He received BEng and MEng in control engineering from the Electrical Engineering Department of Sharif University of Technology, Iran in 1998 and 2000 respectively. He completed a PhD degree at Deakin University, Australia in 2011. He spent eight years as a teaching academics in the Iran University of Science and Technology from 2000-2008. During this period he also collaborated with multiple oil and gas companies on various research projects and he provided over 200 professional development workshops and training courses for engineers of these companies. Between 2008-2017, he worked in the Institue for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation, at Deakin University. He was a visiting scholar in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Colorado State University, the USA in 2010-2011 and he continues the joint research as an associate member of Colorado State University.
His university education and academic career experience have been devoted to control theory, Industrial control systems, and robotics. Within control theory, Hamid is particularly interested in dynamical modelling, time-delay, and fault-tolerant systems. Within industrial control systems, he is familiar with instrumentation engineering, Distributed and Fieldbus Control Systems (FCS and DCS) which covers SCADA and PLC systems. Within robotics, he is interested in kinematics, dynamics, and control of robots and robot applications.
Hamid is actively involved with a number of research projects and supervision of multiple doctoral and master students in the area of robotic system design, time delay systems control, modelling and simulation of robotic systems, and system optimization, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship activities.
