Biography

Dr Weiwei Lei received his PhD degree in Condensed Matter and High-pressure Physics from the Jilin University in end of 2009. He then joined Yonsei University, South Korea as Research Visitor. In June 2010, Dr Lei joined Max-Planck-Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany, working with Prof. Dr. Markus Antonietti as Research Fellow. He was awarded an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, Deakin University in mid of 2011 working with Prof. Ying Chen. He was then granted a prestigious Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) in 2014. His invention of porous BN nanosheets (Nature Communications 2013, 4, 1777) has attracted both academic and industrial attentions. Another import research outcome (Nature Communications 2015, 6, 8849) reported a solvent free ball-milling method for the mass production of 2D nanomaterials such as BN nanosheets which has made a significant impact on the applications of water cleaning, functional material and energy storage.

Nanomaterials Synthesis Quite proficient in the physical and chemical knowledge, synthesis techniques, and characterizations and analyses method. The synthesis of 2D nanomaterials (BN, BCN, Graphene, MoS2, WS2, MoO3 nanosheets) and their related 3D structures. The synthesis of metal nitride (AlN, WN2, MoN2,TaN,GaN, InN, GaInN) nanostructures with different morphologies including rose-like, pine-like, wall-like, 6-fold symmetries, multipede-like, hollow-sphere urchin-like, 3D hierarchical nanoflowers and 1D nanorods by arc plasma technique . Material Characterization XRD, TEM, SEM, FTIR, Raman, UV, XPS, TGA, BET, AFM, TEM, EELS, PL and EDS etc. Electrochemistry and Green Energy Electrocatalysis of oxygen reduction/evolution and hydrogen evolution reactions, evaluation of energy conversion devices, supercapacitors, and batteries. Application Test Hydrogen storage, molecular absorption, water separation, gas separation, catalyst, light emission, photoluminescence, ferromagnetic, and biological applications.
