Joel is the Operations Manager for Cricket Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and has played a key role in the competition’s success and rapid growth resulting in the BBL become Australia’s leading summer sports league, as well as one of the fastest growing sport leagues in world, in just five short years.
Originally from the Northern Territory, Joel moved to Melbourne in 2007 to commence his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Deakin University majoring in Marketing and Sports Management. Mid-way through 2007 Joel began working for the Australian Football League (AFL) in the Game Development Department before being promoted to a position within the Football Operations Department in early 2010 where he was responsible for key areas such as match day operations, the AFL tribunal and match review panel, the AFL draft and AFL trade period.
In late 2012 Joel accepted his current position at Cricket Australia and joined the management team responsible for the delivery and growth of the BBL with oversight of the League’s operations, marketing, commercial, events and fan engagement programs. During his time in cricket Joel has also completed stints at home and abroad working on international tournaments such as the 2015 Cricket World Cup, whilst also maintaining a close relationship with Deakin through his position on the university’s Sports Management Alumni Advisory Committee.
