Study commitment | Students will on average spend 150-hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |
Scheduled learning activities - online | 4 x 2-hour online seminars, 4-days of face-to-face seminars Ad-hoc additional optional online sessions will be offered by CIRCLS team to support return-to-study, academic skills, and study skills. Mentoring groups of five or six students led by experienced Design and Technologies teachers will also meet regularly. |
Content
Food and material processing technologies explores the application of nutrition principles and the characteristics and properties of food, food selection and preparation, and contemporary food issues. Students will investigate the importance of a variety of foods, sound nutrition principles, food preparation skills and food safety. The unit also explores a broad range of traditional, contemporary and emerging materials, and specialist areas that involve an extensive use of technologies. Students learn to make ethical and sustainable decisions about designed solutions and processes by learning about and working with materials and production processes. The unit will also develop teaching and learning approaches that support the evaluation of learning.
