Our research programs are supported by three institutes, two strategic research centres and five schools. Together, we tackle some of the most urgent and important clinical and public health problems of our time.
IMPACT works to develop innovative diagnostics, treatments and therapies for mental health conditions and chronic diseases using a multidisciplinary, collaborative and responsive approach that enables the rapid translation of biomedical discoveries into treatment possibilities.
IPAN conducts world-leading research into all aspects of physical activity and nutrition across the lifespan, from conception to old age, including disadvantaged communities, children’s health, healthy ageing and healthy neighbourhoods, healthy bones and muscles, cognitive and mental health, healthy and active workplaces, food policy and consumer food choices.
IHT works to address complex health challenges through collaborative research that transforms the design and delivery of prevention and care across health systems. The institute aims to activate healthy populations and communities, innovate health service delivery and design, empower consumers as advocates for health system change, and drive equity and value in health and care.

SEED Lifespan is dedicated to preventing mental disorders and promoting emotional health from childhood through adolescence, young adulthood and into parenting the next generation. CSR focuses on influencing practice in sport to enhance the health and performance of people and organisations participating in sports. CSR’s program of research is built on a foundation of industry and community partnerships, as well as sport and exercise science services. CSR is part of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN).
Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) is a comprehensive quality evaluation of all research produced in Australian universities. In the 2021 ERA results, the vast majority of the Faculty of Health research rated 5 ‘well above world standard’.
The School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is ranked #1 in the world.* The school has world-class multi-disciplinary researchers that focus on the role of exercise and nutrition in preventing and managing disease, and enhancing human performance.
The School of Health and Social Development focuses on the importance of engagement with our communities and families, and the promotion and return to good health that's essential for this engagement.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery is ranked among the top 30 universities worldwide for nursing.# It has a strong research culture and a proud history of applying research findings to clinical practice, education programs and healthcare policy.
