Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation

The Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT) develops new and effective responses to mental and physical health for our community. We use cutting-edge approaches to translate our medical research from the laboratory to real-world solutions.

About IMPACT

IMPACT officially launched as an Institute in December 2019, merging two Deakin University Strategic Research Centres: the Centre for Molecular and Metabolic Research (CMMR) and the Centre for Innovation in Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Treatment (IMPACT).

Today, IMPACT is made up of a diverse team of over 200 researchers, led by Director Alfred Deakin Professor Michael Berk and Deputy Director Professor Ken Walder.

Our research focus

Our research is conducted under seven major research themes. We collaborate with national and international partners from universities, health care providers and philanthropic organisations to increase our impact. Our research is vital to tackling some of the most disabling and common mental and physical health conditions that we face today.
