Research integrity

Deakin is committed to creating an environment in which research is always conducted in accordance with the highest ethical standards.

Our research community

Researchers are entrusted with the responsibility of undertaking research for the benefit of us all. Research integrity plays a vital role in maintaining that trust.

Deakin is dedicated to building a best-practice research community driven by honesty, accuracy, efficiency and objectivity.

These values apply to a wide range of areas within any research program, including the management and sharing of data, authorship, peer review, conflicts of interest, human and animal ethics, publication and dissemination of findings and the handling of misconduct and training.

Deakin adheres to the principles guiding research integrity across Australia: the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.

Research code breaches

Deakin takes allegations of research code breach and serious research code breach (previously known as 'research misconduct) very seriously, and are responsible for investigating and addressing these allegations consistent with the principles of procedural fairness.

Anyone who believes a research code breach or serious research code breach has taken place involving a Deakin STAFF or STUDENT, must act in a timely manner and formally report the allegation in writing to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research or nominee.

All allegations of potential research code breach or serious research code breach are managed in line with the Deakin University Research Integrity Breaches procedure, in accordance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
