Deakin offers flexible degree options for expert nurses, fresh graduates from international nursing schools, and students who have just completed high school. The duration of your degree can vary from 10 weeks to three years  (or four years if considering a combined degree) dependent on your experience, qualifications, and English proficiency levels. Pathway for English studies are also available.

English for Nursing

Deakin's English for Nursing course is a five-week intensive course that upon successful completion means you have met the English Language Requirements for Deakin's Bachelor of Nursing degree.

You will learn everything from communication skills and adapting to working as a nurse in Australia to working as part of a team and critical thinking in the Australian nursing environment.

Return to practice/initial registration of overseas nurses – registered nurse

The Return to Practice or Initial Registration of Overseas Nurses - Registered Nurse is a 10-week, non-award course specifically designed to fulfill requirements for registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is for nurses from overseas who wish to obtain initial registration in Australia.

Special requirements apply to gain entry into this program.

Key Facts

  • 10-week course consisting of six weeks in class and four of clinical placements
  • A minimum of one year of recent work experience is needed (must be in the last five years at the time the degree starts)
  • Leads to AHPRA registration, no further exam required
  • Two intakes a year (January and June) at Deakin's Melbourne Burwood Campus
  • Applicants must meet English requirements (IELTS 7/7 or equivalent) before they start
  • No pathway available.
