Deakin University’s Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation has announced its new advisory board.

The Institute’s Director, Professor Fethi Mansouri, said the Institute appreciated the support and expertise advisory board members would bring as it embarked on the implementation of its 2015 – 2020 Strategic Plan.

“As Matthew Albert made clear at the launch of our strategic plan (watch video here) citizenship and the interconnectivity that drives globalisation are intrinsically linked,” he said.

“It was important to us, as a major leading social sciences and humanities research institute, to ask and be clear about what impacts would this have and what areas of public policy, public debate and international governance could we engage with.

“Ideally informing and shaping the debate that emerges from such change."

Professor Mansouri said the Institute knew that government, non government and community organisations played a critical role, giving a practical real world aspect to what can at sometimes appear an academic endeavour.

“I am pleased therefore that our advisory board members bring a strong track record and participation at a community and Federal level in debates around issues such as migration, policy, heritage and citizenship, social inclusion, governance and security,” he said.

“External members of the Advisory Board are: Dr Hass Dellal (OAM), Director, Australian Multicultural Foundation; Carmel Guerra, Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Multicultural Youth; Ahmet Keskin, Executive Director, Australian Intercultural Society; Frank McGuire MP, Member for Broadmeadows; Professor Fazal Rizvi, University of Melbourne; Padmini Sebastian, Manager, Immigration Museum; and Professor Peter Spearritt, The University of Queensland.”
