Trimester system

Deakin has three trimesters each year. Trimester 3 is not compulsory - it provides another study option. Trimesters 1 and 2 have approximately the same duration as other universities working on a semester system. 

Incoming exchange students are encouraged to select from the available units or the pre-approved study plans below.

Contemporary Communication: the local and the global

This exciting and flexible program gives students a mix of conceptual and hands-on study options to understand better the global and local nature of contemporary communication, including film, media, internet, news, public relations and literature. Other study choices are available to students subject to meeting the pre-requisite requirements from their current studies at home. Students able to do first-year units may also select from the options in the Creative Screens study program

Creative Screens: making digital stories

This hands-on program of study focuses heavily on the development of students' creative abilities in making digital stories utilising Deakin's excellent technology resources; conceptual and theoretical study options are also available. It is designed for students who are able to complete first-year (freshman) units as part of their study abroad program for their home university. For students able to complete that program, Creative Screens also runs in Trimester 3, over summer. Students may also select later-year units from the options in the Contemporary Communication study program.
