Understanding Deakin's academic entry requirements, English language requirements and visa requirements is an important part of the application process. Before you apply, take the time to understand what requirements you need to meet to study at Deakin University.

Deakin’s academic year is divided into three trimesters, giving you greater choice over when and how you study. Check the application closing dates for starting in March (Trimester 1), starting in July (Trimester 2) and starting in November (Trimester 3) to ensure you don't miss out.
Prepare your supporting documents
You will need to include official documents with your application. Depending on your course, these may include: proof of identity (such as your passport), academic transcripts, proof of English language proficiency, a personal statement and supporting documents for recognition of prior learning (RPL). Take the original document and a photocopy to an authorised person for certification. Documents in languages other than English will also need to be translated.

Students from certain countries must apply through an agent to meet Australian visa requirements.
What happens after you apply?
Once you have submitted your application, we will email you within two days. A dedicated case officer will assess your application and contact you if any additional information is needed. After all required documents have been received, you can expect an outcome within two to three weeks.
If you are successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer with instructions on how to accept your offer and enrol.
Apply for a scholarship
A Deakin scholarship is more than financial support – it’s recognition of your potential. Most international scholarships do not require a separate application. If you are eligible, you will automatically be considered when your course application is assessed.

Completed an Australian Year 12?
If you have completed an Australian Year 12 in Australia or overseas you should apply for undergraduate courses through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC)
Have you worked or studied before?
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) allows your previous study or work experience to count towards your degree, potentially reducing the time and cost of your studies. We will assess your eligibility for RPL using any relevant supporting documents you provide with your application.

Applying for readmission
The Deakin readmission process depends on your personal situation. We consider the academic performance and English language proficiency of all applicants for readmission, in addition to the availability of the course. Deadlines for readmission vary per study period.
If you have been excluded for academic reasons or general misconduct, you can apply for readmission to the same course via this form or apply for a different course through StudyLink Connect.
If your enrolment was discontinued for non-academic reasons, such as non-payment of fees, withdrawal from studies or a lapsed enrolment, you must apply for readmission through StudyLink Connect and provide the following documentation:
- a personal statement outlining your motivation for returning to study, how your circumstances have changed since you discontinued and what efforts you will make to support your success if you return to study
- original certified copies of all academic transcripts/certificates for all programs completed/enrolled at other institutions after you have discontinued from Deakin University, including all CoEs obtained for your student visa (if any)
- proof of English language proficiency (if required)
- documents/evidence of your activities and relevant departure and arrival dates in Australia since your discontinuation, such as air tickets and passport, current visa status in Australia (if applicable)
- documents/evidence of other relevant factors that caused your decision to discontinue your studies at Deakin.
Please state that you are a former Deakin student and include your Deakin student ID if known. Deakin does not return original hard copy documents. Where possible, you should submit original certified copies. Applications for readmission cannot be processed until all administrative restrictions are cleared and/or outstanding fees are paid.

In some circumstances, yes, you may be able to submit your application before receiving your final academic results or English test scores.
After submitting your application, you will receive an acknowledgement email within two days. A dedicated case officer will assess your application and contact you if additional information is needed.
Once all required documents have been received, you can expect an outcome within:
- two to three weeks for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework
- approximately eight weeks for research degrees, including PhD and masters by research.
If you don't meet the academic or English language requirements for your chosen degree, pathway programs through Deakin College or Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) can help you qualify for study at Deakin.
Students from certain countries must apply through an agent to meet Australian visa requirements. These countries include Africa, India, Phillipines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Learn if you are required to apply through an authorised agent.
No. You do not need a student visa to apply to study at Deakin. If your application is successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer outlining the steps to accept your offer. After you accept and enrol, we will issue you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). You will need this document to apply for an Australian student visa.
