Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander AO has congratulated The Hon Dan Tehan MP on his reappointment as Education Minister and congratulated newly elected MPs Libby Coker (Corangamite) and Gladys Liu (Chisholm).

Professor den Hollander said Minister Tehan was well-known and a good friend to the Deakin community.

"As I have said before, Minister Tehan noted in his maiden Parliamentary speech in 2010 that 'education is a key reason I am standing here today' and as Minister he demonstrates real passion for quality graduate employment outcomes and regional access to higher education," Professor den Hollander said.

"As well as his ministerial portfolio, Minister Tehan is the local MP for Deakin's Warrnambool campus. He has been a strong supporter of our commitment to delivering higher education in Victoria’s South West region. When Deakin refocused its education model at the Warrnambool campus in 2016, Minister Tehan's efforts to facilitate the support of the Federal Government were crucial. I congratulate Minister Tehan on his reappointment and wish him well.

"I congratulate Ms Coker on her election to Federal Parliament as the Member for Corangamite. The seat of Corangamite takes in Deakin's Waurn Pond campus, where our Geelong Innovation Precinct has researchers at the bleeding edge of global research in the automotive industry, textiles, aerospace, intelligent systems, health and medical technologies.

"I send my very best wishes and deep thanks to Sarah Henderson, the outgoing local member for Corangamite, for her passion and commitment over the years. Ms Henderson has always been a strong supporter of Deakin, and the higher education sector more generally.

"Finally, I congratulate Gladys Liu, the new member for Chisholm, on her election. I wish Ms Liu the very best as she embarks on her Parliamentary career as the representative of our largest campus at Burwood where we look forward to working with her on a range of important issues for over 30,000 staff and students."
