Statement from the Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin

I am announcing today that after two highly impactful terms as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, Alfred Deakin Professor Mike Ewing is taking on a new challenge, being appointed Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts at Southern Cross University (Coolangatta campus) and will depart Deakin for the northern NSW coast in late May.

Mike took up his position as Executive Dean for the Faculty of Business and Law in March 2014 and under his leadership the Faculty has gone from strength to strength; exceeding student number and research targets and delivering on student success and improved student outcomes.

Of particular note is the Business School’s AACSB and EQUIS initial accreditation and reaccreditation, and significant improvement in ERA performance and research income.

Under Mike’s leadership, working closely with three law deans, the Deakin Law School has also progressed from strength to strength, now residing in its new building on the Burwood Campus. Mike’s leadership has firmly placed Deakin among the leading business and law schools in Australia (inside the top eight on any/every measure).

We will commence a recruitment process immediately to identify Mike’s successor. Arrangements for Acting Faculty leadership will be announced in the coming weeks.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike for his excellent leadership of the Faculty, alongside his important input to my Executive and his commitment to Deakin. I wish him every success for the future.
