Australian Future Fibres Research and Innovation Centre

Green natural fibres

Australia is well known for the production of high quality natural fibres, such as wool, cotton, alpaca and cashmere. The natural fibre industry is a multi-billion dollar industry in Australia. Natural fibre research at Deakin covers a wide range of natural fibres, including their properties, processing and applications. We are also working with domestic and wild silkworm silk, bamboo fibre, bast fibres, as well as natural nanofibres. Our pioneering work on alpaca dehairing has been adopted by a local company (Cashmere Connections P/L).
