Getting to the Melbourne Burwood Campus

Deakin's Melbourne Burwood Campus is located in the overlap of zone 1 and zone 2 of Melbourne's tram network. This means you can take the 75 tram from either direction and get to the campus with either a zone 1 or a zone 2 ticket.

Tram

  • Catch the 75 tram from Melbourne city (Southern Cross station or Flinders Street station) to the front of campus on Burwood Highway.
  • Catch the 70 tram from Melbourne city to terminus at Wattle Park (corner of Riversdale Road and Elgar Road), then walk for 15 minutes to campus, or connect with the 767 bus.

Train/tram
The Melbourne Burwood Campus sits between the Lilydale/Belgrave, Glen Waverley and Alamein train lines.

  • Catch train to Hartwell station on the Alamein line, then connect with the 75 tram up Toorak Road to the front of the campus on Burwood Highway.
  • Catch train to Hawthorn station on the the Alamein, Lilydale or Belgrave lines, then connect with the 75 tram up Toorak Road to the front of the campus on Burwood Highway.
  • Catch train to Jolimont station on the Epping or Hurstbridge lines, then connect to the 75 tram up Toorak Road to the front of the campus on Burwood Highway.
  • Catch train to Richmond station on the Sandringham, Frankston, Cranbourne, Pakenham, Glen Waverley, Alamein, Lilydale or Belgrave line. Catch the 70 tram to to terminus at Wattle Park (corner of Riversdale Road and Elgar Road), then walk for 15 minutes to campus, or connect with the 767 bus.
  • Catch train to Burnley station on the Glen Waverley, Alamein, Lilydale or Belgrave line, then connect to the 70 tram to terminus at Wattle Park (corner of Riversdale Road and Elgar Road). Walk for 15 minutes to campus, or connect with the 767 bus.
  • Catch train to Riversdale station on the Alamein line, then connect to the 70 tram to terminus at Wattle Park (corner of Riversdale Road and Elgar Road). Walk for 15 minutes to campus, or connect with the 767 bus.

Train/bike
If you live near a train line and own a bicycle, you can save time by cycling part of the way to Deakin rather than waiting for connecting buses or trams. Train travel for your bike is free.

  • Catch the Lilydale/Belgrave train to Box Hill station, then ride along the Gardiner's Creek trail to campus.
  • Catch the Glen Waverley train to Jordanville station, then ride along the Gardiner's Creek trail to campus.

Bus
There are five bus routes making 286 trips a day between Box Hill train station and Deakin University:

  • Route 281 (Templestowe to Deakin University via Box Hill Station)
  • Route 732 (Box Hill Station to Upper Ferntree Gully via Deakin University)
  • Route 735 (Box Hill Station to Nunawading via Deakin University)
  • Route 767 (Box Hill Station to Southland via Deakin University)
  • Route 768 (Box Hill Station to Deakin University).

Bus/tram

  • Catch the 733 bus (Oakleigh to Box Hill via Clayton, Monash University) to the corner of Middleborough Road and Burwood Highway, then walk 10 minutes along burwood Highway to campus, or connect to the 75 tram.
  • Catch the 903 bus (Altona to Mordialloc SMARTBUS via Holmesglen TAFE and Chadstone) to the corner of Warrigal Road and Burwood Highway, then connect to the 75 tram.

Train/bus
Buses connect with a number of suburban train stations.

  • Catch the 767, 732, 281 or 768 bus from Box Hill train station on the Lilydale/Belgrave line
  • Catch the 767 bus from Jordanville train station on the Glen Waverley line.
  • Catch the 767 bus from Hughesdale train station on the Cranbourne or Pakenham line.
  • Catch the 732 bus from Upper Ferntree Gully train station on the Belgrave line.
  • Catch the 903 bus from Mentone, Mordialloc, Aspendale, Edithvale or Chelsea station on the Frankston train line;
  • Catch the 903 bus from Holmesglen train station on the Glen Waverley line.
  • Catch the 733 bus from Clayton train station on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines;
  • Catch the 733 bus from Mount Waverley train station on the Glen Waverley line
  • Catch the 733 bus from Box Hill train station on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines.

Car
A limited amount of parking is available at various open-air and undercover areas on the main campus and at the nearby Elgar Road precinct. Deakin University car parks are classified as Permit Parking Zones and a valid Deakin University parking permit is required at specified times.

Carpooling
Deakin University provides a free online carpool matching service to help you find someone to carpool with to Melbourne Burwood Campus. Carpooling is a great way to save money by sharing the cost of a parking permit and petrol, while making new friends. Bicycle
The Melbourne Burwood Campus is easily accessed by an extensive system of bicycle trails. On campus you will find showers and change rooms, bike racks, lockers and a secure bicycle cage to make your commute as easy and safe as possible.
