Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - online

A minimum of 2 Blackboard Collaborate sessions will be conducted during the trimester.

The first BB collaborate to occur 2-weeks prior to submission of assessment 1.

The second BB collaborate to occur 2-weeks prior to submission of assessment 2.

Content

This unit will explore essential knowledge, concepts, issues and strategies to engage Middle Years learners. Students are introduced to current research into how Middle Years students learn, their diversity as learners and the implications for teaching. The program of study will include recent developments pertaining to Australian Middle Years schooling, relevant research impacting education, teachers and young people, Middle Years curriculum and its implementations in Australian schools and consider strategies for assessment and providing feedback to students about their learning. 

Students will examine in detail the knowledge and skills required to plan for teaching and learning activities in the Middle years of the Australian curriculum. This unit will enable you to align your school-based professional experience placement relevant to your specialist teaching areas and address the essential professional knowledge to undertake teaching Middle Years learners, including an introduction to the Practice Principles for excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Australian Standards for Teachers.
