Travel survey's undertaken each year indicate that over 60% of staff and 30% of students drive to Deakin as a sole-occupant driver, producing over 39,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year. That's equivalent to over 700 million black balloons! Carpooling to Deakin is one way to reduce pollution and emissions.

Carpooling car parks
To support your commute to Campus the University has plans for a carpooling car park on level 2 of the multi-story car park (car park 6) on the Melbourne Burwood Campus. These are designated for carpoolers only. The car parks are expected to be completed by T1, 2012. Look out for announcements at the parking office.
There are no designated carpooling carparks on the other campuses at this stage, however, the Office for Sustainabilty and Campus Services are investigating the possibility on the other campuses. You will still save money in the interim by halving the costs of your parking permit and sharing the costs of fuel.
