Cycling to each of the campuses is a great way to obtain your daily exercise, avoid car parking hassles and save money. Find cycling information for each of the following Campuses:

  • Melbourne Burwood Campus

  • Warrnambool Campus

The Melbourne Burwood Campus

Showers and change rooms

To help you cycle to and from the Melbourne Burwood Campus you can find showers and change rooms in buildings HB, level 1 at the central precinct and outside under the overpass between buildings B and J.

The Bike Cage

Located on the east side of building HB, the Bike Cage can house 65 bikes at any one time in a secure bicycle cage. The initiative will save 44 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The facility is fully secured with access granted only via swipe card, plus there is a CCTV Security Camera on site 24/7.

Bicycle racks

Bicycle racks are located around the campus, find them at:

  • building HB (south)
  • outside under the overpass between buildings J and B
  • building X, behind the concrete wall parallel to mutant way
  • building I (north)
  • building LA (west)

Lockers for the storage of bags, clothes, books

The Deakin YMCA hires lockers to all staff and students to make cycling an easier option. Please note that these lockers are located in building HB, level 1 in the change rooms and are for the storage of items such as bags, clothing, towels, books etc.

Walking and cycling trails

You can hop on these trails at various points for a short walk to get to Deakin. Alternatively, jump on a bike and get fit at the same time!

  • Blackburn Creeklands Reserve. Starts off Main St, Blackburn and joins Middleborough Rd which links with the Gardiner's Creek Trail.
  • Gardiner's Creek Trail. Starts at the Main Yarra Trail in Toorak, near St Kevin's College and follows Gardiner's Creek through Glen Iris, Malvern, Burwood (Deakin University), Ashwood, Box Hill and ends near the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary.
  • Anniversary Outer Circle Trail. Starts at Kew and follows the Alamein line. Follow this track to the Gardiner's Creek Trail.
  • Scotchman's Creek Trail. Starts at Jells Park, Wheelers Hill and finishes at East Malvern Railway Station. The trail links with Gardiner's Creek.

Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

Showers and change rooms

To help you cycle to and from the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus you can find showers and change rooms in the Deakin YMCA (building da, KD Stewart Centre).

Opening Hours:

Monday – Thursday 7.30 am – 8.30 pm
Friday 7 am – 5 pm
Saturday 8.30 am – 12.30 pm
Sunday 12.30 pm – 4.30 pm

Bicycle racks

Bicycle racks are located around the campus, find them at:

  • building da, east, KD Stewart Centre
  • building ib, level 1, north entrance
  • building jc, library, level 2
  • building ka, level 2, north, south and east entrances
  • building ka, level 3, north entrance
  • building ni, south east, parallel to the GTP

  • Lara – Waurn Ponds Loop.

  • Waurn PondsValley Parklands Trail. Following the Waurn Ponds Creek, this trail starts in Belmont and runs through the Waurn Ponds Valley Parklands and finishes at Bunnings on the Princes Hwy. From here cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and it’s a short cycle down Pigdons Road to the campus. Not only is it a pleasant ride, but it also passes the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre and cinemas, regional baseball centre and skateboard park, giving off-road access to these locations. Geelong Waterfront Campus

Showers and change rooms

To help you cycle to and from the Geelong Waterfront Campus you can find showers and change rooms in level 1, near the Café.  

Bicycle racks

Bicycle racks are located around the campus, find them at:

  • level 1, carpark
  • level 2, outside on Gheringhap Street near the entrance to the Institute of Teaching and Learning
  • building da, off Cunningham Street
  • outside on the corner of Cunningham Street and Gheringhap Street

The Bike Cage

Located on level 1 of the underground car park (D1.001), the Bike Cage can house 36 bikes at any one time in a secure bicycle cage. The initiative will save around 23 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The facility is fully secured with access granted only via swipe card, plus there are CCTV Security Cameras on site 24/7.

The lockers are located next to the DUSA office on level 1 near the Cafe.

Walking and Cycling Trails

You can hop on these trails at various points for a short walk to get to Deakin. Alternatively, jump on a bike and get fit at the same time!

  • Barwon River Trail. The Barwon River Trail follows the banks of the Barwon River from Buckley Falls, through Fyansford Common, Newtown Park, Balyang Sanctuary, Barwon Valley Park to Landy Field. It's a pleasant scenic loop taking in parkland and reserves. You will have to hop off the trail and travel on-road either down Moorabool St or Yarra St to get to the Waterfront Campus.   • Bay Trail. This trail follows the foreshore from Drumcondra to Eastern Beach. Check out the sculptures along the way and enjoy foreshore on the way to the campus. To download a map visit Bikely.com

  • Bellarine Rail Trail A pretty off-road route between Geelong and Queenscliff, the trail passes through Drysdale, Leopold, Newcomb, East Geelong and finishes at South Geelong Station. You will have to hop off the trail and travel on-road either down Moorabool St or Yarra St to get to the Geelong Waterfront Campus. To download a map visit Bikely.com

Warrnambool Campus

Showers and change rooms

To help you cycle to and from the Warrnambool Campus you can find showers and change rooms in the following locations:

  • building B near the lift and security office
  • behind the gym (building H). There are two showers and one toilet in each male and female change room as well as access to a disabled shower and toilet.

Bicycle racks are located around the campus, find them at:

  • building B, east and north
  • building H, east

Lockers for the storage of bags, clothes, books

There are currently no lockers at the Warrnambool Campus.

Walking and cycling trails

There are currently no formal off-road cycling trails to the Warrnambool Campus. The main route to campus is via the main highway, however, we do recommend that you exercise precaution and read the following information on the Cycling Promotion Fund's website. You can also download the Bike’able Warrnambool Map (1.68MB) which highlights some of the trails in the area.
