Intercampus Travel

If you travel between Deakin's campuses on a regular basis, have you considered alternative travel such as public transport? You can save money on petrol and use the time by studying, reading or working while you travel.

Geelong intercampus bus

Deakin University operates a free week day bus service between the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and the Geelong Waterfront Campus. The service operates from 7:30am to 8:30pm and runs until 21 December, 2011.  The 2012 service will recommence on 9 January, 2012.

Travel by V/Line train

V/Line is Victoria's largest regional public transport operator, services run every day from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne to Geelong and Warrnambool.

Timetables

Melbourne - Geelong Waterfront Campus

From Southern Cross Station take the Geelong line to Geelong station, hop off at Geelong station and walk 500 metres to the Geelong Waterfront Campus (total travel time: 1 hour and 7 minutes).

Melbourne - Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

From Southern Cross Station take the Geelong line to either Geelong Station or South Geelong Station, from here you have the choice of hopping on one of 5 buses which will take you to the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus (total travel time varies according to which bus you catch, see approximate times below).

  • Bus Route 14 - departs from South Geelong Station: Total travel time approximately: 1 hour and 40 minutes.
  • Bus Route 16 - departs from South Geelong Station: Total travel time approximately: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Bus Route 18 - departs from Geelong Station. Total travel time approximately: 30 minutes.
  • Bus Route 19 - departs from Geelong Station. Total travel time approximately: 1 hour and 35 minutes.
  • Bus Route 20 - departs from Geelong Station and South Geelong Station: Total travel time approximately: 1 hour and 35 minutes.

Melbourne - Warrnambool Campus

From Southern Cross Station take the Geelong line to either Warrnambool Station or Sherwood Park Station. Sherwood Park is located outside of the Warrnambool Campus, however, please take note that the services are more infrequent.

If you hop off at Warrnambool Station you will need to take 2 buses to get to the Warrnambool Campus. Take the route 1 bus from Warrnambool Station and hop off at Koroit Street (City Centre). From here take the route 9 bus to Deakin University. Total travel time approximately 3 hours and 55 minutes. Alternatively you can walk from Warrnambool Station to Koroit Street which is only a 1km walk (11 minutes), total travel time will be reduced to 3 hours and 37 minutes approximately.

If you take the train which is a direct service to Sherwood Park it will take approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes from Southern Cross Station.

Fares

Fares for travel will vary depending on where you are traveling to and if you are eligible for concession rates. Tertiary student's who are eligible to obtain a Victorian Public Transport Concession will also be able to obtain concession fares on V/Line services.

The following table is an example of the costs of travel to Geelong and Warrnambool via V/Line train services. Please note costs may vary according to when you travel, the type of service you prefer and whether you are eligible for a concession.

Melbourne to:

Geelong and South Geelong Station (peak, day return) $19
Warrnambool and Sherwood Park Station (off-peak, day return) $53.40
