Prerequisite:	Completion of six (6) Hxx7xx units before commencing the practicum. For students enrolled in M703: Completion of at least eight (8) units, of which at least four (4) must be ‘H%’ coded.

Typical study commitment:	Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.
Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - on-campus unit enrolment:	Attendance is strongly recommended at the preparatory seminar (1 x 3 hour seminar in online or campus mode) prior to the professional experience (placement), plus 2 x 1 hour online sessions during the professional experience (placement). The unit will comprise of professional experience (placement) hours of between 100 to 140 hours, consistent with requirements of post-graduate placements across the university. Note that the pre-placement seminar and completion of other assessments are not included in these hours.
Note: Important Enrolment Information Once enrolled, please ensure that you check your Deakin student email account regularly in the weeks leading-up to trimester for important information related to preparing for the unit and securing your placement. Police Check and Working with Children Check Prior to commencing a placement, students working in an external host organisation are required to obtain a police check. The Faculty of Health Work Integrated Learning Team utilise an online service called 'Fit2Work', and students will receive an email with instructions on how to apply. Students should not apply for a police check until they have received this email from Fit2Work. Some organisations may also require students to obtain a Working with Children check if they will be working directly with children or families whilst on placement. If a Working with Children check is required students will need to source this via the Victorian Government Working with Children Check site.

Content

HSH755 Postgraduate Health Practicum provides students with the opportunity to undertake an authentic experience of postgraduate-level work, to develop knowledge, generic skills and graduate attributes that enhance future employment. Students will complete a practicum in an area of public health, health promotion, health economics, disability and inclusion and/or health and human services management. The practicum, through the FreelancingHUB or in a host organisation, will comprise of between 100 to 140 placement hours and completion of unit assessments.

Support for the unit is provided through the Unit Chair, Unit site and email. The unit site is used for the delivery of Unit resources; academic assessment and feedback; and administrative purposes, including communication with enrolled students. 

Students enrolled in this unit are ambassadors for their courses as well as for Deakin University. The highest standards of professional and personal conduct are expected at all times. Students need to achieve a pass in each of the assessment tasks to successfully pass the unit. Once this is achieved the student will be awarded an ungraded PASS for the unit.

This unit is an ungraded pass/ungraded fail only. All assessments must be passed in order for the unit to be passed.

The assessment due weeks provided may change. The Unit Chair will clarify the exact assessment requirements, including the due date, at the start of the teaching period.
