Where to liveFind a great place to live when you come to study at DUELI. Choose from homestays, where you can live with an Australian family to get better at English quickly, on-campus or off-campus accommodation.
A great way to speed up your language learning is through living in a homestay – where you can live with a local family.
In a homestay environment, you'll get:
- a fully furnished room
- breakfast, lunch and dinner
- laundry and cleaning facilities.
Deakin can help you find a suitable homestay so you can learn English in a safe and caring environment, make new friends and get firsthand experience of the Australian way of life.
Prices for homestay accommodation vary, depending on the arrangements you make with your homestay hosts.
In general it costs AUD $330 per week in Melbourne or AUD $315 per week in Geelong, which is paid directly to your host.
There's also a homestay placement fee of AUD $250, which you must pay to Deakin, along with your tuition fees, when you arrive.
It can be tricky to get an on-campus room but we've made it easier for our DUELI students by reserving rooms for you in student residences at both our Melbourne Burwood and Geelong Waurn Ponds campuses (this is very close to our Geelong Waterfront Campus – we have a shuttle bus running between both campuses so you can get to DUELI easily).
Finding your own accommodation
You might also want to live off campus, but not in a homestay. It's a great way to get to know your local community and other students.
If you'd like to live in an apartment or house with other students, check out our off-campus accommodation recommendations.
