Deakin staff member appointed to Geographic Place Names Advisory Panel

Associate Professor Stephen Alomes, from the Faculty of Arts and Education, has been appointed to a four-year term on the Geographic Place Names Advisory Panel by the Victorian Government Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Gavin Jennings.

The Geographic Place Names Advisory Panel advises on decisions concerning both the naming of new suburbs and the renaming of physical and built places. It takes into account social and cultural questions and practicalities, including clarity of naming which is important for emergency services.
