How do I find a suitable school?
You can find a school in your area by visiting the Student Victoria website and searching for a school.


Will I have to pay school fees for my child?
If you are Higher Degree by Research student on visa subclass 575 or 576, you are eligible for fee exemptions and will not need to pay school fees. Students who are studying Higher Degree by Coursework are NOT eligible for fee exemptions and will have to pay school fees.

Important considerations

Education in Victoria, Australia is compulsory for children aged from six to 16 years. However, from 2011 the school leaving age is being increased to 17 years. In the Australian school system, students attend school for a total of 13 years.

Primary school students are aged between five and 12 years old. Classes are divided into Prep and Years 1 – 6.

Secondary school students are aged between 12 and 20 years old. Classes are divided into Years 7 – 12.
