How do I?

Defer my exams

Sometimes, due to circumstances beyond your control, you are just not able to sit for an exam. This may be due to medical reasons or some other personal reasons (such as a serious illness in your family, an accident etc.)

In such cases, it is possible to defer your exams by applying for Special Consideration and requesting to defer the exams.

If you are unsure whether or not your circumstances make you eligible to apply to defer your exams, you should talk to an International Student Adviser in the first instance. The ISA will be able to advise you what to do next and may refer you to another service provider such as a Counsellor  or a Doctor.

To apply for a deferred exam, you will need to lodge an application for Special Consideration on StudentConnect. Look under the "Assessment and Exams" section on the left hand side of the page and choose "Special consideration application".  You will be asked to log into Student Connect and you can then lodge your application.

PLEASE NOTE

  • You MUST provide supporting documentation with your application. Applications without supporting documentation will not be considered.
  • Please ensure that you read the information about Special Consideration carefully and only lodge your application to defer an exam if you are sure that you meet the criteria.
  • It is important to understand that applying for a deferred exam does NOT mean that it will be approved. You may not be informed of your application's outcome until after the exam. If you don't sit the exam and the application is refused, you will automatically fail.
