How do I?
(Note: Higher Degree by Research - HDR students do NOT follow the below prcedure. HDR students should email research-hdr@deakin.edu.au for advice on how to discontinue. ALL other students MUST follow the below procedure.)
If you wish to withdraw and discontinue your studies at Deakin, you must:

You are advised that once formally discontinued, Deakin University will cancel your existing eCOE and is legally obliged to advise DIAC of your discontinuation which may lead to a cancellation of your visa within 28 days of this application.
You should approach DIAC for advice (Tel: 131 881) if you wish to remain in Australia and/or transfer to another Education Provider after discontinuing from Deakin University.

Important If you are facing academic exclusion by your faculty for unsatisfactory academic progress, transferring to another education provider will not negate the possibility of DIAC cancelling your visa. If you have been formally excluded from further study at Deakin, under Standard 10 of the National Code, Deakin University is obliged to report your exclusion to DIAC, even if you have applied to discontinue your studies. A visa cancelled for academic exclusion reasons may prevent you from gaining entry to Australia for three years. You are welcome to make an appointment with an International Student Adviser to discuss this matter further. |
Your correspondence address must be changed through Student Connect before departing from Australia.
If you have been studying at Deakin (excluding DUELI/MIBT) for less than 6 months and wish to transfer to a new education provider, you will need to obtain a release letter from Deakin International. Please refer to the Transfer between Providers website. Conditions apply, so please refer to the information on the Transfer between Providers website and release letter application form.
If you are applying for a release letter, you are advised not to formally discontinue your enrolment until you receive a release letter as approval is not guaranteed (release applications may take up to 10 working days to process). If you are granted a release letter from Deakin International, it is then your personal responsibility to ensure you officially discontinue your enrolment from Deakin University by separately completing an Enrolment Details Variation Form as per points 1-3 above.
