The Chancellor Mr David Morgan presided, assisted by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sally Walker.

The MC was the Vice-President and Council Secretary, Ms Lin Martin.

The Mace-bearer was Mr Dale Warren.

The Faculty representative was Ms Terri Redpath.

Occasional Address

Ms Marilyn Mooney

The Occasional Address (iLecture recording - requires broadband) was delivered by Ms Marilyn Mooney.

Ms Marilyn Mooney is an experienced primary school teacher, and leader within the education sector. She has taught and held a range of senior and leadership roles at primary schools in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne. She has previously held the positions of Equal Opportunity Consultant and Unit Co-ordinator in the Western Regional Office of the Department of Education.

Ms Mooney was a former member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee for the Victorian Institute of Teaching and continues to be an elected teacher member of the Institute's Council. Her Council responsibilities include Chair of disciplinary hearing panels; Chair of the Communications Committee and member of the Standards & Professional Learning Committee. In addition to her membership and committee responsibilities Ms Mooney remains in the professional practice, as a casual relief teacher in the Western Metropolitan and Barwon South Western regions.

Outside of the teaching profession, Ms Mooney is an active local community member and avid golfer. She is an elected board member of the Portarlington Golf Club with particular responsibility for Occupational Health and Welfare issues and the junior golf program. She is also a member of the South Western District Ladies Golf Association committee, holding the office of Junior Development Organiser. She was a Commonwealth Games volunteer and continues to volunteer for various community activities and causes. Ms Mooney is passionate about quality of, and access to, education, as well as finding and developing innovative methods for learning and fostering young minds.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
