Request an alternative exit

Examples of an alternative exit are:

  1. An undergraduate student enrolled in a combined (double) bachelor course who graduates from a single bachelor course and may wish to continue with the other side of their double degree. To be approved for an alternative exit you must meet the full requirements of the single degree you wish to graduate with.
  2. A postgraduate student enrolled in a nested award who graduates from any level of the nested award. For example, a student enrolled in a Masters program who graduates with a Graduate Certificate and/or Graduate Diploma. In this instance, the student is not precluded from continuing to, and graduating from, the higher nested award.

In order to graduate from a nested award, a request to graduate must be submitted prior to becoming eligible to graduate from the higher nested award. For example, a student cannot request to graduate from the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma at the time they are eligible to graduate from the Master degree.

For all examples listed above, an alternative exit graduation is subject to normal course completion eligibility.

To request an alternative exit please complete the online application form available below. All applications are subject to assessment and application does not guarantee approval.

This application form is not applicable to students who want to exit their undergraduate degree with an Undergraduate Diploma. Please see Request for an Undergraduate Diploma.

If you have any queries regarding your eligibility, please contact Student Central.

Declaration
  • Please be aware that if you have selected the option to exit and not continue your studies, your course enrolment will be discontinued once your alternative exit request is processed.
  • If you wish to continue studies under this enrolment later (i.e. finish the half of a double degree you did not exit with or continue in higher award studies such as your Masters after exiting with a Graduate Certificate) you will need to make an application for readmission, subject to a re-admission assessment and the entry requirements of the intake.
  • If you choose to readmit to your course at a later date you must follow the terms and conditions of the Admission policy.
  • Where recognition of prior learning (RPL) has been previously granted, please note reassessment of credit will be made at the time of an application for re-admission in line with Deakin's RPL policy.
Declaration
  • Students who take an alternative exit with one side of their Undergraduate double degree, and continue their studies with the other side, will be graduated with each side of their degree as their exits are processed. This is also applicable for students in a Masters who complete a lower nested award and continue with their higher award/s.
  • This will mean that you will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony, and have each side of your degree conferred, as you are deemed eligible. You do not have the option to graduate with both awards at the same time or to have the full award read out on stage.
  • The exception to this rule is D387 Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Psychological Science students where an exit is required to commence Nursing graduate year prior to completion of both awards.
  • Students in combined undergraduate and postgraduate courses, such as D303 or D306, are not able to exit with the Bachelors and continue studies in the Masters. These combined awards confer the PG component as part of the double - the Bachelors exit option exists for students who do not want to, or meet edibility to continue to, the Masters.
