Prepare Week and International Student Welcome
International Student Welcome (ISW) is the flagship event of your Orientation.
This event occurs in Prepare Week and includes a one-hour information session about studying in Australia as an international student, as well as the opportunity to socialise with other commencing international students over activities and lunch. It's a fun way to kick-off your time at Deakin!
It's important that you arrive in Australia before Prepare Week begins so you can attend your International Student Welcome Event: learn more about when to arrive in Australia to give yourself the best start at Deakin.
Prepare Week will also introduce you to International Student Connect, our program of events for international students, designed to help you make friends, adjust to life in Australia and learn where to get support.
OWeek sessions and events
Your other core sessions during Orientation are DUSA's OFest, your course information session and your campus tour. There will also be many more informal opportunities: keep an eye out for the chance to join a club or society, try a new sport or chat to other students in your course as you're moving around your new campus.
DUSA OFest
OFest is a carnival day run by our student association, DUSA. Expect games, activities, DJs, food trucks, giveaways and student club stalls.
Course information sessions
Run by your faculty teaching staff, this session will introduce your area of study and teaching teams. It’s also a good opportunity for you to check you’re enrolled in the correct units.
Campus tours
Attend a campus tour to explore Deakin with some students who know their way around! They will show you where to study, eat, relax and get help. We also offer low-sensory tours.
Support information sessions
There will be sessions introducing your digital and physical learning environments, and the practical support services available to you, such as peer mentors.

Do you have sensory needs?
We offer a range of low-sensory events and resources specifically for students with sensory needs. We also offer activities with sensory-friendly options, such as quiet hours, reset spaces, self-guided tours and videos to help you prepare for certain experiences.
We welcome everyone
At Deakin, we value diversity, embrace difference and welcome all. Wherever you come from, however you identify, we welcome you.
