Short-term loan laptops

Deakin provides loan laptops for currently enrolled coursework students who need short-term access to a device.

This service is designed to help if your laptop is forgotten, uncharged, broken or not working unexpectedly. Device numbers are limited, and this service is not a replacement for the requirement to have your own laptop.

Students are encouraged to check Deakin’s Bring Your Own Device Guidelines and Deakin's Computing requirements.

Our goal is to support students with their studies.  This service is a pilot and requires a shared responsibility by all to ensure equal access.

Please note: there are a limited number of desktop computers available in the libraries across all campuses.

The process for loaning and returning a laptop

Look for green lights – this means laptops are available.

2. Log in at the locker bay.

  • Scan the QR code with your mobile device and follow the prompts

3. Accept the loan terms.

Read the terms and conditions, then tap Accept.

A locker door will open automatically. Inside you will find:

Closing the door completes your loan.

Loan extensions:

  • Due to limited device availability to support students and system limitations, we are unable to offer loan extensions. Laptops must be returned to the same campus by the due date and time.

Late  devices

Late devices will limit the number of devices available for other students.  We have established a process to support students in returning devices in a timely way.

  • Students will receive confirmation of the loan terms at the time of borrowing and a reminder within 24 hours of the due date.
  • If a device is late, students should contact Deakin IT Help.
  • If the device is overdue, reminders will be issued after 24 and 48 hours.
  • At 48 hours overdue, the laptop will be locked and cannot be turned on.
  • If the device is 72 hours overdue and there has been no contact with IT Help, an encumbrance may be placed on the student’s access to Deakin systems until the laptop is returned or contact is made.
