Dr Alistair Becker - Thesis Title: "Fish Use of Flooded Margins of an Intermittently Open Estuary."
Summary
Fish communities in the shallow flooded margins of an intermittently open estuary were examined over an 18 month period. A distinct shift in the fish assemblage occurred when the mouth of the estuary closed and was associated with changes in the hydro-period, food availability and physico-chemical changes in the main channel.
Dr David Francis- Thesis Title: "Impacts of Fish Oil Replacement in Murray Cod Nutrition."
Summary
Fish oil use in aquaculture feeds is an unsustainable practice. This study investigated the efficacy of vegetable oil inclusion on the growth, fatty acid composition and lipid metabolism of Murray cod. Results indicate that fish oil can be substituted only partially without compromising fish growth and final quality.
Dr Vincent Versace- Thesis Title: "Influence of land cover on water resources: a case study."
Summary
The influence of land cover on water quality and quantity was examined using a multidisciplinary approach that integrated land use maps, historical databases, and statistical modelling. Systematic changes in the Glenelg Hopkins landscape were identified, in addition to a relationship between greater proportions of vegetation and better water quality.
