Doctoral Degree Recipients
Dr Megan Lisa Cardamone - Thesis title: "The Role of New Media in Entrepreneurial Indigenous Cultural Micro-Enterprises."
Summary
This study examines the use of new media by organisations which represent the oldest cultures on earth, finding that new media have transformed the practices of Indigenous cultural micro-enterprises, by providing an inexpensive channel for global cultural profile, increasing efficiency and viability, and reducing social and geographic discrimination.
Dr Tabitha Ramsey White - Thesis title: "Individuals' Perceptions of the Impact of Art."
Summary
This research explored the impact of art on people in order to enhance the likelihood that the benefits of art can be enjoyed by a broad range of people. Art was found to have a significant impact on individuals' wellbeing, emotions, relationships, and their perception of the world.
Dr Helen Ka-Ling Yee - Thesis title: "Ideological Hegemony and Professional Organisation of Public Accountants in China"
Summary
This thesis examines the development of the Chinese public accounting profession during the post-Mao era of the 1980s and 1990s. The success of the public accountants in accomplishing professional status within society is found to be closely linked to the ideological influence and the political agenda of the state leaders.
Alfred Deakin Medal Recipient
Sarah Dillon
These Medals are awarded annually to candidates with a record of outstanding scholarship as well as service to the community and the University.
The awards are named in honour of Alfred Deakin after whom this University is named and were an initiative introduced by the University to commemorate the life of Alfred Deakin.
Occasional Address
The Occasional Address was delivered by Ms Jan Mcpherson, Company Secretary and General Counsel, Freshtel Holdings Limited and Environmental Clean Technologies Limited.
Jan Macpherson joined the Greening Australia (GA) Victoria Ltd Board in 2002 and serves as the Vice President and Company Secretary to the Board and sits on the GA Victoria Executive. She is currently, through her legal practice, Barwon Law, General Counsel and Company Secretary to listed companies Freshtel Holdings Limited and Environmental Clean Technologies Limited, and to private explosives trader Global Seismic Solutions Pty Ltd.
Ms Macpherson is also on the board of SSK Real Estate and until very recently was a councillor on the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council.
Ms Macpherson runs her own legal practice, is a registered tax agent and holds a Bachelor of Law, a Masters of Business Administration from Deakin University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance.
