Dr Sasi Iamsiraroj - Thesis title: "A Comprehensive Analysis of Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth."

Summary
All three frameworks reveal a strong positive impact of FDI on economic growth. On average, economic growth appears to have been driven by FDI, human capital, domestic investment, openness to trade, and economic freedom. However, findings on the impact of growth on FDI are somewhat different across the three frameworks.

Occasional Address

Marcia Griffin, Partner, griffin+row

The Occasional Address was delivered Ms Marcia Griffin, Partner, griffin+row

Marcia Griffin was Chief Executive Officer of POLA Cosmetics Australia and New Zealand between October 1987 and December 1997. POLA Cosmetics, unheard of in Australia before 1982, is a $3bn corporation based in Tokyo. Ms Griffin joined the Australian franchisee that started marketing POLA in 1982, as the solitary sales person; by December 1997 she had built the company to a multi-million dollar business, with approximately 4,700 POLA consultants across Australia and New Zealand. In December 1997, Ms Griffin sold back her share of the POLA business to the parent company to take on other challenges.
In May 1995 Ms Griffin won the first Telstra Victorian Business Woman of the Year Award. In November 1995 she was a keynote speaker in Chicago at the Arthur Andersen 1995 Enterprise Best Business Practices Symposium.
In July 1998, Ms Griffin published a book about her life and business called High Heeled Success and in that year she also chaired the panel for the 1998 Arthur Anderson Business Practice Awards.

Between 1996–1998, Ms Griffin was on the Advisory Board of Werribee Park Tourist Centre, 1997–2000 the Board of Tourism Victoria and 1998–2000 The Queen Victoria Market and Wholesale Fish Market and the Board of Melbourne Storm. She was also on the Board of the World Masters Games, the world’s largest participatory sporting event held in Melbourne in October 2002 with 25,000 competing athletes.
Her current Board roles include Australia’s largest printing and distribution company-PMP, and National Pharmacies, an Adelaide based business with 53 pharmacies and optical stores throughout South Australia and Victoria.
Ms Griffin also holds a chair position with The Executive Connection (TEC) and was in the first female chair in Australia. TEC is the world’s leading CEO membership organisation with more than 1,000 members in Australia and New Zealand and 13,000 members worldwide. The TEC community is a collaborative think tank of business leaders representing most disciplines, industries and personal and professional experiences.
In October 2008 Ms Griffin and her business partner launched a new brand of natural skincare products through their company griffin+row. The range has met with instant success and through a focused publicity campaign; the result was a total sell out in the first month through 150 Target stores Australia-wide. Sales are continuing to escalate and the plan is to take the business to the global market.
Ms Griffin's educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Melbourne University), Diploma of Education (Monash University) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Melbourne University).
