The following are frequently asked questions about scholarships offered through Deakin University:
If you have never studied at Deakin before and are intending to commence your studies in Trimester 1 2013 in the first year of your degree, you are classified as a 'commencing student'.
If you have studied at Deakin before or currently enrolled, you are classified as a 'continuing student'.
To check whether your documents have been uploaded correctly, once you have completed the upload, go the next stage in the application process by clicking on the “Review and Submit” tab at the top of the screen. At the bottom of the screen you will see the section headed “Supporting documents uploaded” which will show a list of all the documents that have been successfully uploaded. To edit or remove your documents, hit the “edit” button.
To check your documents once you have submitted your application and exited the Applicant Portal, log into the Portal and go to the “upload documents” tab. Your previously uploaded documents are listed at the bottom of this screen.
Scholarships do not cover the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). This fee will appear on your online invoice each Trimester/Semester along with your tuition fees. If you are eligible to defer the SSAF and you wish to do so, you must complete the SA-HELP form online via StudentConnect, by providing your tax file number and accepting the conditions. If you choose to pay the SSAF upfront, you must make payment by the due date specified on your invoice. (Payment details will be available on your invoice. Go to ‘Generate your invoice’ on StudentConnect).
The rules governing each of the scholarships offered by the Deakin Scholarships Office are different and not all scholarships can be intermitted. We recommend that you contact the Scholarships Office to confirm your circumstances.

All scholarship offers are conditional. You should read the terms outlined in your Letter of Offer for more details.
You need to advise the Deakin University Scholarships Office immediately if your circumstances change to ensure that you are still eligible to receive your scholarship.
If you are a current scholarship holder an income check will be performed prior to payment of all scholarships offered on the basis of financial hardship. You do not need to provide Deakin University Scholarships Office with a Centrelink authority form. However if you don't, you will need to provide proof of your financial circumstances prior to each payment Trimester 1 and 2 Census Date.

Some scholarships are offered based on the course you are enrolled in. If you change your course this may affect your scholarship.
You should discuss your intentions with the Scholarships Office to confirm your circumstances and to ensure that you are still eligible to receive your scholarship.
A full-time study load is considered to be 3 credit points or more per trimester, unless there are exceptional circumstances, for example, a disability preventing you from taking on additional units. You are required to notify us immediately in writing if your circumstances change.
Being enrolled as a full-time student, unless there are special circumstances, is a requirement for most scholarships.
You should discuss your intentions to change your enrolment status with the Scholarships Office to confirm your circumstances and to ensure that you are still eligible.
The payment amount and options available depend on the scholarship offered. Current scholarship holders should refer to their Letter of Offer for more information.

Scholarships are generally paid in two instalments - Trimester 1 and 2, unless otherwise stated in your Letter of Offer. These payments are made progressively within the 4 weeks following census date once enrolment and other eligibility conditions are confirmed.

Generally scholarships are not payable in Trimester 3. You should refer to your Letter of Offer to see if your scholarship will be paid.
Whilst we appreciate the financial difficulties experienced by some students, the Scholarships Office is unable to arrange to pay specific scholarships on specific dates.

If your scholarship makes a cash payment, this will be made by electronic funds transfer (EFT) to your nominated bank account. To ensure that your payment is processed correctly you will need to advise us prior to census date with your new bank account details.

Provided that you continue to meet the eligibility conditions of your scholarship, your scholarship sponsorship will be paid towards your student contribution within the 4 weeks after census date.
