Check which version of Java you have (all platforms)
There are different ways to find out which version of Java you are using:
- In an eLive session:
- Click on Help, then About.
- Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up window to find the version of Java Web Start you are using.
- On a PC:
- Click on the Start button at the bottom of your screen.
- Click on Control Panel (for Windows 2000, click Settings then Control Panel) - you may need to switch to 'Classic view'.
- In the pop-up window you will see an entry for either Java or Java plug-in. If you see the Java entry, you have the latest version (version 1.5).
- On a Mac:
This is part of your software update. Make sure you have completed all updates and you will be running the latest version.
- Open a Finder window.
- Click on Applications, Utilities, Java and open Java Web Start.
- Click the Java Web Start menu and choose About Java Web Start.
- The current version for Mac OSX is 2.1.0.
Clear Java cache on a PC
Java Web Start version 1.5 (J2SE 5)
- Click on the Start button at the bottom of your screen.
- Click on Control Panel (for Windows 2000, click Settings then Control Panel) - you may need to switch to 'Classic view'.
- Double-click on Java.
- Click on the Delete Files button, then click OK.
- Click OK again.
- Close the Java Control Panel.
Java Web Start version 1.4.2_x
- Open Java Web Start (either via the icon on your desktop or in your Programs folder).
- Click on File then Preferences.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Click on the Clear Folder button, then click OK.
- Close the Java Web Start Application Manager.

- Open a Finder window.
- Click on Applications, Utilities, Java and open Java 1.4.2 Plugin Setting.
- Click the Cache.
- Click on the Clear button. Then close the window.
- Close the Java Plug-in Control Panel.
