The Obesity Policy Coalition (OPC)
The OPC aims to influence change in policy and regulation to support obesity prevention, particularly in Australian children. The OPC is comprised of the following partner organisations:
Parents Jury
The Parents Jury provides a forum for parents to share their opinions and support the improvement of children's food and physical activity environments.
The Parents Jury is jointly managed and funded by the Cancer Council Australia, Diabetes Australia Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, the Australian and New Zealand Obesity Society, VicHealth and YMCA Victoria. The Parents Jury has nearly 4,000 members nationally.
The Food Alliance
The Food Alliance is an advocacy organisation, formed with the aim to identify, analyse and advocate for evidence-informed policies and regulatory reform to enable sustainable food security and healthy eating in the Victorian population.
The Food Alliance was formed in 2009, is funded by VicHealth and sits within the Food Policy Unit of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University.
Australian and New Zealand Obesity Society (ANZOS)
Established in 1991, ANZOS is a scientific organisation of medical practitioners, dietitians, scientists and other health care professionals interested in obesity research, treatment or public health initiatives directed at the prevention of obesity.
The Society comprises more than 600 members throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Region.
Australasian Child and Adolescent Obesity Research Network (ACAORN)
ACAORN was established in November 2002 with a grant from the NSW Department of Health. ACAORN fosters and coordinates research collaboration among Australian and New Zealand child and adolescent obesity research groups, to identify key research questions and seek funding to address them with high-quality research.
ACAORN has approximately 50 members from many different research groups, representing Australia’s leading paediatric and adolescent obesity researchers.
International Obesity Taskforce (IOTF)
The IOTF is a global network of expertise, a research-led think tank and advocacy arm of the International Association for the Study of Obesity.
The IOTF is working to alert the world to the growing health crisis threatened by soaring levels of obesity. It works with the World Health Organization, other non-governmental organisations and stakeholders to address this challenge. The Taskforce is composed of world experts in the field of obesity and related diseases from around world.
