WHO Collaborating Centre Obesity Prevention
The World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention (WHO CC Obesity Prevention) Unit is one of seven Research Units in the Centre for Population Health Research.
The WHO CC Obesity Prevention creates, shares and distributes knowledge in partnership with the community to promote obesity prevention and other non communicable disease (NCD) prevention. The current focus of the Unit is multi-dimensional and centres around the following key themes: Monitoring of Non Communicable Diseases, Interventions with Communities, Food Systems and Policy Analysis and Systems Thinking for Non Communicable Disease Prevention.
The WHO CC Obesity Prevention Unit is one of the largest research groups dedicated to obesity prevention research in Australia. It has attracted over $20 million of research funding over the past decade, and currently includes 18 researchers across multiple disciplines including nutrition and dietetics, epidemiology, political science and health economics.
In addition to the comprehensive research program, our academics offer education, training and expert research consultancy services. The focus is on supporting organisations, services / and alliances to undertake obesity prevention strategies, evaluate their effectiveness and introduce methodologies to monitor and improve approaches to obesity prevention and the burden of chronic disease. This along with advocacy and knowledge translation opportunities provides a diverse range of engagement opportunities to partner and collaborate on addressing the complexities of obesity and NCDs at a local, regional, state, national and international levels.
