Youth Affairs Council of Victoria
The Youth Affairs Council of Victoria is a non-government peak body and leading policy advocate on young people's issues in Victoria.

YouthGAS
YouthGAS promotes the sharing of information and awareness for, by and with young Australians. The site provides both young Australians a vast range of local, state, territory, national and international resources, information and opportunities.

YouthSource
NSW based youth information web site. Although NSW based it contains a variety of useful information and resources for all young people including information on sex, law stuff, health, youth services, drug and alcohol services for youth, STI’s and drink spiking.



Asthma

The Asthma Foundation of Victoria
Asthma Victoria has many branches and support groups throughout the state. It has a range of useful printed material available, including training manuals, brochures and fact sheets.

National Asthma Council Australia
The National Asthma Council Australia (NAC) is a non-profit body which serves the community by creating awareness and providing information about asthma to both the community and health professionals.



Body image

Body Image and Health
This site seeks to foster a positive body image amongst Victorians through a range of activities which include promoting community awareness of body image and health issues in the media, research and fashion.

The Butterfly Foundation

Supports Australians with eating disorders. The Butterfly Foundation provides financial assistance for the relief of sufferers of eating disorders and for the prevention of disease by supporting education and early intervention programs.



Cancer

Cancer Council Australia
The Cancer Council Australia is Australia’s national non-government cancer control organisation. Members are working together to undertake and fund cancer research, prevent and control cancer and provide information and support for people affected by cancer.

The Cancer Council NSW
This site is designed to guide you with question and answer format about cancer, the stages of cancer and available services presented in a logical and easy to read format.

The Cancer Council Victoria
Provides a wide range of information relating to cancer, including Victorian related information and statistics. Other resources include information for health professionals, individuals and schools and articles on cancer fundraising events and latest news.

National Breast Cancer Centre
The National Breast Cancer Centre (NBCC) is Australia’s peak body for breast and ovarian cancer control and works with women, health professionals, cancer organisations, researchers and governments to improve the management of breast disease and the wellbeing of women with breast symptoms.

Heart Foundation (Australia)
Provides a comprehensive range of information relating to heart health including cholesterol control, high blood pressure and exercise information

National Stroke Foundation
The National Stroke Foundation provides information about stroke to the public and aims to raise the level of awareness in relation to the signs, risk factors, prevention of our third largest killer. The Foundation also focuses on research. Strokesafe has been launched as an important public health campaign to help Australians become stroke aware.


Diabetes

Diabetes Australia
Diabetes Australia forms part of a federation of twelve organisations - medical, education and scientific, research and community based, coordinated and facilitated through a national office in Canberra.

Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia
The Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) is the peak, national, non government organisation representing the interests of the Australian alcohol and other drugs sector, providing a national voice for people working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs.

Australian Alcohol Guidelines
This site provides both written and visual information about safe drinking levels, including recognition of a standard drink and guidelines for safe alcohol consumption.

Australian Drug Information Network
The Australian Drug Information Network (ADIN) provides access to quality assured internet based drug and alcohol information provided by prominent Australian and international organisations.

An independent organisation, which aims to tackle drug and alcohol issues in the Australian community.

Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association

Youth Substance Abuse Service
The Youth Substance Abuse Service (YSAS) provides accessible alcohol and drug interventions for young people between the ages of 12 to 21 years who are experiencing significant problems with their alcohol and drug use. The YSAS service includes service provision and health promotion, plus youth specific outreach, treatment, withdrawal, rehabilitation and support programs.

Promoting physical activity is a priority for the Victorian Department of Human Services. This website is for use mainly by public sector and industry professionals and is about Victorian State Government policy, information and programs.

This site provides information on healthy eating, the role of dairy in the diet including recommended daily allowances and provides healthy recipes to download, including recipes for vegetarians.

Glycemic Index

Provides information about the state government exercise and environment initiative "Travelsmart" at the Melbourne campus at Burwood.

VICFIT
The Victoria Council on Fitness and General Health was established through the Ministers for Sport and Recreation and Health in 1982. It was set up to provide government advice , foster coordination in the promotion of physical activity in Victoria and to facilitate the implementation of major physical activity initiatives with appropriate partners.

VicHealth
The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) has pioneered innovative strategies to promote health within the Victorian community. VicHealth sponsors sports and arts events and promotes the benefits of not smoking and adopting a healthy lifestyle. VicHealth also supports other health promotion programs in areas such as injury prevention, healthy eating and physical activity, sun protection, mental health promotion and responsible drinking.

Victorian Aboriginal Health Service
Aboriginal Health Service was set up by Aboriginal community members in response to the need for an appropriate and accessible health service for Aboriginal people. The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service adopts a holistic approach to health, which is the philosophy reflected and structured from early beginnings by a national support of Aboriginal services to endorse the autonomy of community control.

HIV/AIDS

Y.E.A.H. (Youth empowerment against HIV/AIDS)
YEAH is a small, but growing Melbourne project based organisation that promotes awareness about HIV/AIDS via finding creative and entertaining ways to involve the community. Please note YEAH is for all ages - the young and the young at heart.

Interagency Youth Working Group (IYWG) has recently launched “Resources on Youth Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS”. This unique global resource provides materials designed for those working with youth in developing countries.

It’s alright
This website is managed by Sane Australia. It provides information and support to young people who have a mental illness, or who have a friend or family member with a mental illness. The website has four fictional diaries from teenagers whose lives are touched by mental illness. There are also fact sheets and contacts for more information.

Life living for everyone
Launched by the Australian Government, the new LIFE (Living is for Everyone) program provides information to individuals, families and carers whose lives have been tragically affected by suicide. It showcases local area suicide prevention activities and taps into local support networks.

MindMatters
MindMatters is a resource and professional development program to support Australian secondary schools in promoting and protecting the social and emotional wellbeing of members of school communities. Information is state based within Australia.

Mood Gym
MoodGym is an online treatment program in cognitive behavioural therapy for preventing depression.

National Depression Initiative
Depression is a leading cause of illness and disability in Australia. To address the health burden of depression, a National Depression Initiative was announced by the Honourable Dr Michael Wooldridge, Minister for Health and Aged Care on 14 March 2000.

Reach Out
An information and referral service, containing three subsites - Chill Out, Family and Friends and Professional Forum. Reach Out is the flagship project of the Inspire Foundation, a public company limited by guarantee with registered charity status (DGR 442 641). SANE Australia

Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA) service provides counselling, support, information and advocacy in related to medical and legal options to all adult victim and survivors of sexual assault. CASA’s Crisis Care is a 24 hour service.

Family Planning Australia
FPA Health provide reproductive and sexual health services in New South Wales. Their web site provides a wide range of consumer and professional resources focused primarily on sexual health.

Family Planning Victoria
Provides a wide range of educational and referral information on sexual health topics including contraception and sexually transmitted infections (STI).

Victoria AIDS Council and Gay men’s health centre
The Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men’s Health Centre (VAC/GMHC) provides a broad range of information about services and activities. Their primary focus is the health and wellbeing of HIV positive individuals and communities, the HIV vulnerable or at risk communities and the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) communities.

The Institute was established in 1997 as part of Griffith University’s ongoing commitment towards better public health. Travel Health Online
Travel Health Online is an American based non commercial site for use by private individuals to obtain travel health advice. The site provides destination information, vaccine recommendations, travel medicine providers and general traveller information.

World Health Organisation
World Health Organisation provides vital global information on a range of health related topics, including travel health. Information includes reports, activities, outbreak information and a comprehensive outline of diseases and health issues relating to travel.

Australasian Menopause Society
The Australasian Menopause Society aims to bring doctors, nurses, paramedical and community workers together to discuss the advancement of knowledge about menopause.

Bonehealthforlife
Is a new Jean Hailes Foundation site focusing on osteoporosis, in particular prevention and targeting young woman.

Breastscreen Victoria
BreastScreen Victoria is part of a national program, BreastScreen Australia. BreastScreen provides breast x-ray screening at 32 centres, as well as 19 mobile sites, throughout Victoria which screen approximately 160,000 women each year.

Endometriosis Association of Victoria (Australia)
EAV is a self help organisation which provides support and information for women with endometriosis.

International Menopause Society
The International Menopause Society aims to promote knowledge, study and research on all aspects of aging in men and women; to organize, prepare, hold and participate in international meetings and congresses on menopause and climacteric; and to encourage the interchange of research plans and experience between individual members.

National Breast Cancer Centre
The National Breast Cancer Centre (NBCC) is Australia’s peak body for breast and ovarian cancer control. PapScreen Victoria
PapScreen Victoria is the Victorian Cervical Screening Program. It contains useful information relating to pap testing.

Women’shealtheast
Women’s Health East is a community-based women’s health service covering the eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne. The organisation is a not for profit incorporated association working in partnership with other health and community agencies to promote gender-based planning in health promotion and service delivery, and to improve service system access and responsiveness for women. A health information line provides free telephone enquiry service for women seeking health related information, phone: (03) 9662 3742 or free call 1800 133 321.

Women’s health Victoria
WHV is an independent state wide women’s health promotion, advocacy and information service. Their work is in conjunction with service providers through whom they reach the maximum number of Victorian women, in particular those with poor access to services.

Women’s health information

This site provides fact sheets for women in a variety of languages. The fact sheets on this site are managed by the Women’s Consumer Health Information team, which is part of the RWH health promotion program absolutely women’s health.

Well woman’s web site
The Royal Women’s Hospital is a confidential service for women, including advice, support and referral. The service works on the basis that women’s health and well-being may be affected by social, emotional and cultural influences.

Working Women’s Health
Working Women’s Health (WWH) is an immigrant women’s organisation committed to improving the health and wellbeing of immigrant women working in paid and unpaid employment across Australia.The organisation provides leadership and excellence in multilingual health education, advocacy, training, and research with specific expertise in sexual, reproductive, occupational, and mental health. Information is available in a variety of languages.
