Review Options

Administrative

An Administrative Review checks that all assignment and exam marks have been included and added up correctly to obtain your final mark.

Academic

PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING AN APPLICATION: An Academic Review will only be granted where it is shown that work was not marked in accordance with the marking criteria or that there was a misapplication of other relevant University policies or procedures. Assessments are marked in accordance with University policy and subject to scrutiny within the Faculty to ensure consistency. The Faculty Academic Progress Committee asserts that results have been marked correctly unless there is clear evidence of a mistake.

Applications that do not provide adequate grounds for review, or which challenge normal academic judgement in the marking of assessments, will be rejected. This is consistent with University policy for Review of Results.

After your final result has been released:

Eligibility

Following the release of results, students may apply to the Faculty Committee for a review of their overall result for a unit, including assessment in any part of the unit, in accordance with clause 4 of Regulation 5.3(1) - Assessment and Academic Progress in Higher Education Award Courses (PDF, 42.2 KB).

Applications for academic review must include appropriate grounds/reasons for such a review. The Faculty Academic Progress Committee will only approve an application for a review where the student provides evidence that their work was not marked in accordance with the marking criteria or that there was a misapplication of other relevant University policies or procedures.

Examples of reasons that will not be accepted:

  • I only need 1 or 2 marks to pass
  • I don't think the rubric was used correctly/I should have received more marks for question X
  • This is the final unit of my degree
  • I was not feeling well during the exam
  • I studied hard/well and think I deserve more
  • I thought I did well enough to pass
  • My friend wrote the same/similar answers in their exam and they passed
  • A family member or friend was sick

It is your responsibility to provide sufficient evidence and documentation to justify an Academic review of result. Incomplete applications or ones lacking grounds will be rejected.

This process does not give you feedback on your performance.

Please note that all applications for Academic review will automatically receive an Administrative review. This is done to ensure that all of your marks have been included and added up correctly in obtaining your final result.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are appropriate grounds for Academic Review?

For an Academic Review to be granted by the Faculty Academic Progress Committee, a student needs to demonstrate that their work was not marked in accordance with the marking criteria or that there was a misapplication of other relevant University policies or procedures (as linked to at the top of this page).

Challenging academic judgement on the marking of an assessment item is not considered appropriate grounds for a review to be granted.

Can you please provide me with feedback?

If you want feedback on your exam or final result you should contact your Unit Chair.

My final result was 44. What does this mean?

If your final result was 44 this probably means you did not meet a hurdle requirement. Check your Unit Guide or the Handbook to see if there was a hurdle requirement in your unit.

Receiving 44 in a unit that does not have a hurdle requirement is still possible. This means that when all your assessment results were added up your final result actually ended up being 44.

I missed applying for special consideration. Can I apply through the review process?

No. The Academic Review of Result process only deals with cases where the student can demonstrate that their assessment was not marked in accordance with the marking criteria or that there was a misapplication of other relevant University policies or procedures.

Special Consideration applications must be submitted via Student Connect within 3 working days of the assessment/exam.
