Deakin Industrial Innovation Unit

Housed within the School of Engineering, the Deakin Industrial Innovation Unit (DIIU) has unprecedented access to the virtual reality, 3D printing and digital manufacturing laboratories located within the CADET Building at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.

Linking Industry to Innovation

Established to facilitate the link between industry and the academics, researchers and technical staff from the School of Engineering, the DIIU seeks to provide timely and cost effective innovative solutions to engineering challenges, utilising the resources and talent available.

Our projects

Projects with industry partners have involved:

  • collaborating on 3D CAD design and build of concept models using 3D print and digital manufacturing technologies
  • re-thinking and re-engineering a single component used in a complex manufacturing process to reduce time and repetition
  • delivery of rapid 3D printed prototypes.

Each project team includes an academic with relevant research and development experience, drawing on their knowledge and adding significant depth to the project. These academics guide our research engineers to produce the best possible solutions and outcomes for our clients.

Our team

DIIU's research engineers and project coordinators work closely with the Research Partnerships team from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment to guide clients on how to secure funding.
