Deakin Academic Excellence Scholarships

Deakin University offers a range of prestigious scholarships that recognise and reward students with outstanding academic abilities.

Deakin Academic Scholarships
Deakin will offer three scholarships per year to the top new VCE student enrolling full time in an undergraduate degree course as a Commonwealth supported student at Deakin. The scholarship will pay for all student contributions for the normal duration of the course, subject to satisfactory academic performance. No separate scholarship application is required.

Deakin Honours Scholarships
Deakin will offer twelve scholarships to students enrolling full time as a Commonwealth supported student: three per Faculty offering end-on Honours degrees at Deakin. The scholarship will pay all student contributions for one year, and selection will be based on academic results in your undergraduate degree. No separate scholarship application is required.

Gordon Council Scholarships
Awarded to a second year student of an undergraduate course in a Commonwealth supported place, based on academic achievement in their first full year of undergraduate study. The scholarship will continue for two years subject to satisfactory academic achievement and is valued at $500 per year. For application details please see the Scholarships website.

Deakin University International Baccalaureate (IB) Excellence Scholarships
Awarded to the highest scoring applicant, who completed their International Baccalaureate diploma in 2011, enrolling full time in an undergraduate degree course as a Commonwealth supported student at Deakin. This scholarship is valued at $3000 per year for the normal duration of the course. No separate scholarship application is required.

Deakin Access and Equity Scholarships

Deakin offers a comprehensive range of generous scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to support them in their studies at the University. The scholarships are available to students from recognised equity groups including those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds and to those who come from a rural or isolated area.

City of Greater Geelong Scholarship
These scholarships are available to commencing students. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking an undergraduate engineering course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at on of the Geelong Campuses; a permanent resident of the City of Greater Geelong; able to demonstrate an area of disadvantage. The City of Greater Geelong Scholarship pays student contributions up to $6,500 per year for the normal duration of the course and is subject to satisfactory academic performance. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Access Scholarships
These scholarships are available to commencing students. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking an undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student; able to demonstrate an area of disadvantage. The Deakin Access Scholarships cover all student contributions for the normal duration of the course and are subject to satisfactory academic performance.  Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Accommodation Scholarships
These scholarships are available to commencing full-time students who have moved from rural or regional locations to study on-campus at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, the Geelong Waterfront Campus, or the Warrnambool Campus. Payment is made directly to Residences for on campus accommodation. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student; have moved from a rural or regional home location to study at one of the above campuses; able to demonstrate an area of disadvantage. The Deakin Accommodation Scholarships is valued at $9500 per year for the normal duration of the course and is subject to satisfactory academic performance. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin A L Lane Scholarship
This scholarship is available to commencing full-time student enrolled in and undergraduate degree course at the Warrnambool Campus and living at Deakin Residences in Warrnambool. Payment is made directly to Residences for on campus accommodation. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at Warrnambool Campus; a resident of the south-west Victoria region; able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. The Deakin A L Lane Scholarships is valued at $8000 per year for three years and is subject to satisfactory academic performance. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin City of Whitehorse Scholarship
This scholarship is offered to a student commencing the first year of an undergraduate degree course at Deakin University's Melbourne Burwood Campus and living in the City of Whitehorse. This scholarship pays cash or student contributions up to $4500 per year for one year. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student; a reident of the City of Whitehorse for at least three years; have a demonstrable involvement in the local community; able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Margery Ramsay Scholarship
Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; commencing a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Geelong Waurn Ponds, Waterfront or Warrnambool Campuses; from a rural or regional area of Victoria and able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. This scholarship pays a cash payment of $4500 per year for three years subject to satisfactory academic performance. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Moyne Shire Council Award
This scholarship is offered by the Moyne Shire Council and is valued at $1500 per year for one year only. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported at the Warrnambool Campus; a resident of the Moyne Shire and able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Moyne Shire Council Local Government Award
This scholarship is offered by the Moyne Shire Council and is valued at $2500 per year for one year only. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Warrnambool Campus; able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Sally Walker Scholarship
This scholarship is offered by Deakin University to assist a student who would otherwise have difficulty or be unable to study, due to financial circumstances. This scholarship is valued at $10 000 per year, comprising $8000 towards accommodation costs and a cash component of $2000 to offset study expenses, such as books. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student preferably at the Warrnambool Campus, from a rural or regional location, able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Archie and Hilda Graham Foundation Award
This award was established by the Archie and Hilda Graham Foundation to reduce study expenses of commencing Commonwealth supported students from the south-western region of Victoria, and is a $1000 cash payment. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Warrnambool Campus; a resident of the City of Warrnambool, the Moyne Shire Council or south-western Victoria; able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

The George Alexander Foundation Scholarships at Deakin University
Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; commencing a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Geelong Waurn Ponds, Waterfront or Warrnambool Campuses and able to demonstrate economic, social or geographical disadvantage. This scholarship pays a cash payment of $5000 per year for three years. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

The Invergowrie Foundation Tertiary Scholarships for Women at Deakin University
Applicants must be a commencing full-time female student at the Geelong or Warrnambool Campuses, and must meet certain access and equity requirements. Applicants must be: female; an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Geelong or Warrnambool Campuses; a resident from a rural or regional area of Victoria for at least the previous two years; able to demonstrate financial disadvantage . This scholarship pays a cash payment or student contributions of $5000 per year for three years. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

The Harold Carroll Memorial Scholarship
The Harold Carroll Memorial Scholarship was established by the late Harold Carroll to provide scholarships for students from the Western District of Victoria, to allow them to undertake studies at tertiary level. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student; from the Western District of Victoria and have undertaken some part of their education at a school in the Western District and are able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. The scholarship is valued at $4000 per year and one scholarship is offered each year for the normal duration of the course. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

The Ern Hartley Foundation Award

This award was established by the Ern Hartley Foundation to reduce study expenses of continuing students from the south-western region of Victoria, and is a $1000 cash payment. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Warrnambool Campus; a resident of the City of Warrnambool, the Moyne Shire Council or south-western Victoria. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Warrnambool City Council Award
This scholarship is offered by the City of Warrnambool and is valued at $2500 for one year to assist with study costs. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported student at the Warrnambool Campus; living in Warrnambool or South-West Victoria and able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Warrnambool City Council Scholarship
This scholarship is offered by the City of Warrnambool and pays student contributions up to $7500 per year for three years. Applicants must be: an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of study as a Commonwealth supported at the Warrnambool Campus; living in Warrnambool and able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Selection is based on access and equity criteria.

Deakin Indigenous Scholarships

The University offers partial remission of student contributions for Indigenous students enrolling to study through the Institute of Koorie Education as well as some special awards for students in particular disciplines.

Dr (Auntie) Mary Atkinson Scholarships
Applicants must be Indigenous students. The scholarships are offered to the top Indigenous student admitted to an undergraduate nursing course and an undergraduate education course each year, and will pay all student contributions for the normal duration of the course, subject to satisfactory performance. No separate scholarship application is required.

Deakin Indigenous Bursaries
Applicants must be Indigenous students and enrolled to study at the Institute of Koorie Education. The value is the difference between the basic student contribution charge and the amount charged for the student's enrolled units (the HECS surcharge). The bursary will apply to the first 8 credit points of study on commencement, and will be available to all students satisfying the eligibility and selection criteria. No separate scholarship application is required.

Indigenous Access Scholarships
Indigenous Access Scholarships aims to improve access to higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Applicants must be full time Indigenous students enrolled to study with the Institute of Koorie Education in a Commonwealth supported place and able to demonstrate financial, educational or social disadvantage.

Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships
Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (ICECS) aims to assist indigenous students with the costs associated with higher education. Applicants must be full time Indigenous students enrolled to study with the Institute of Koorie Education in a Commonwealth supported place and able to demonstrate financial, educational or social disadvantage.

Deakin International Scholarships

Deakin Education Abroad Travel Grants
Deakin University offers travel grants to students taking part in a formal international exchange program with an exchange partner university.

Applications are invited from both Australian residents and international students. The Education Abroad travel grants are awarded on the basis of the eligibility criteria for the Education Abroad program.

Deakin University International Scholarship Program
Applicants must be international students eligible to study in Australia with a student visa and commencing a course at any Campus. Selection will be based on previous academic results.

Deakin Internationalisation Scholarships
Applicants must be international students commencing selected postgraduate (by coursework) courses at either of the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, the Geelong Waterfront Campus or Warrnambool Campus. Selection will be based on previous academic results.

Deakin at Your Doorstep

Deakin at Your Doorstep Learning and Development Scholarships
This scholarship is offered to a student commencing the Associate Degree of Arts, Business and Sciences with the financial costs of further education. The scholarship is valued at $500 per year for two years and is subject to satisfactory academic performance. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa and a future students enrolled full time in the Associate Degree of Arts, Business and Sciences in a Commonwealth supported place.

Faculty of Arts and Education Honours Scholarships
This scholarship was established to recognise Deakin students who have achieved outstanding academic results throughout their undergraduate studies.  This scholarship pays up to $3000 over one year. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa and enrolled full-time in an honours degree commencing in 2012 with the Faculty of Arts and Education in a Commonwealth supported place.

May and Romeo Schiavon Honours Scholarship in Rural and Regional Journalism
This scholarship was established by the May and Romeo Schiavon Endowment to encourage students to undertake an honours project in regional journalism. The scholarship is valued at $5000 over one year. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa and enrolled full-time in an honours degree commencing in 2012 with the Faculty of Arts and Education in a Commonwealth supported place undertaking a project in regional journalism. The scholarship is awarded on academic achievement and submission of a proposal for an honours project in regional journalism.

Peter Davis Memorial Honours Scholarship
The scholarship honours the late Peter Davis, a respected colleague both for his commitment to the discipline area of Professional and Creative Writing and for his encouragement of commencing scholars in this area. He blended his love of scholarship with applied creative research within his own academic achievements. This scholarship will provide a memorial to Peter Davis’ abilities and visionary contribution to the discipline area, and an acknowledgement and support of student achievement in completing honours studies within Professional and Creative Writing.  The scholarship is valued at upwards of $500 per year. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa and enrolled in an honours degree commencing in 2012 with the Faculty of Arts and Education, undertaking studies in Professional and Creative Writing. The scholarship is awarded on academic achievement and submission of a proposal for an honours project in professional or creative writing.

Faculty of Business and Law - scholarships

Dean's Scholars Program - Commerce (Melbourne Burwood Campus)
A small number of scholarships are offered to students with the highest ATAR scores admitted to the Bachelor of Commerce at the Melbourne Burwood Campus.  The scholarships are valued at $2800 each per year over three years (subject to satisfactory academic progress).  Dean’s Scholars are also supported by an academic mentor.  Applications are made through separate VTAC entry to the Program.

Dean's Scholarships - Commerce (Geelong Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool Campuses)

A small number of scholarships will be awarded to the students eligible for a Commonwealth supported place with the highest ATARs admitted to the Bachelor of Commerce at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and the Warrnambool Campus. The scholarships are valued at $2800 each year over three years (subject to satisfactory academic progress) and provide support of an academic mentor. To be eligible you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.  

Alfred Deakin Scholarships in Law

A small number of scholarships will be awarded to students with the highest ATAR's who accept a first-round offer into the Bachelor of Laws as a single degree or combined with other degrees at the Melbourne Burwood Campus, the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and Warrnambool Campus. Up to seven Alfred Deakin scholarships will be offered to commencing students eligible for a Commonwealth supported place in Law or a combined Law course. Selection will be made on the student's ATAR. The scholarship pays a cash payment of up to $2800 per year and academic mentor support, subject to academic performance. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.

Faculty of Business and Law Rural and Regional Grant
The Faculty of Business and Law offers grants to assist rural students entering a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Laws or Bachelor of Management degree at the Warrnambool Campus. This grant is valued up to $2000 for 1 year, subject to academic performance.  To be eligible for this grant you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; enrolled in a Faculty of Business and Law undergraduate course at the Warrnambool Campus and from a rural area (which includes Warrnambool and towns in Western Victoria and south-eastern South Australia, as well as the surrounding countryside.

Faculty of Business and Law First in Family Grant
The Faculty of Business and Law offers grants to assist students entering undergraduate studies at the Melbourne Burwood Campus or Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus or off campus . This grant is valued up to $2000 for 1 year, subject to academic performance.  To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; enrolled in a Faculty of Business and Law undergraduate degree in a commonwealth supported place and meet the requirements of the VTAC special entry access scheme (SEAS 5): Disadvantaged financial background.

Faculty of Health - scholarships

School of Medicine

Deakin Accommodation (Medicine) Scholarships
Deakin will offer three scholarships to commencing students in the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery in a Commonwealth supported place to assist them with accommodation costs of up to $9500 in University residences at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus for the normal duration of the course, subject to satisfactory academic performance. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; have moved from your rural or regional home location to study at the Deakin Medical School and are able to demonstrate economic, social or geographical disadvantage. The applicant is required to move away from home.

Faculty of Science and Technology - scholarships

Dean's Scholarships Program - Science and Technology Academic Scholarships for High Achievers
The Faculty of Science and Technology will offer up to five scholarships of $5000 per year for the duration of their course, conditional upon full-time enrolment and satisfactory academic progress. Recipients will also be assigned an academic mentor. The scholarships will be offered to high achieving commencing students from Year 12. Applicants must first apply for the program through VTAC and then also make a direct application to the Faculty.

IGNITED (Deakin Initiative for a Girls’ Network in Information Technology and Engineering @ Deakin) Scholarships
Up to eight scholarships will be awarded to first year female students with the highest ATAR scores above 80, in either the Bachelor of Information Technology degrees (which include Interactive Media, Games Design and Development, IT Security and Computer Science and Software Development), the Bachelor of Engineering degrees (which includes major streams in Civil or Mechanical or Mechatronics and Robotics), the Bachelor of Network Engineering or a combined course which includes at least one of the above single degrees. The IGNITED scholarships are each valued at $10000 in total over the duration of the course, conditional upon full-time enrolment and satisfactory academic progress. Recipients will also be assigned an academic mentor.

Deakin Bennett Honours Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students undertaking projects in the field of study of fibres or textiles at Deakin's Institute for Technology Research and Innovation. (Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus) The value is $7000 for one year, paid towards student contributions or as a cash payment. To be eligible you must be enrolled in an honours degree of the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering. Selection is based on the academic results in your undergraduate degree.

Deakin Pham Family Honours Scholarship
Awarded to a student enrolling in the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) degree at the Melbourne Burwood Campus in a Commonwealth supported place. The recipient will have previously obtained a Bachelor of Information Technology degree, and achieved a high academic standing in their University studies to date. The scholarship is valued at up to $6000 and is paid towards the recipient's fee contributions.

Barwon Water Civil Engineering Scholarships
Up to two scholarships will be awarded to year 12 students entering the Bachelor of Engineering, or equivalent Bachelor of Engineering combined degree, and majoring in the Civil Engineering stream. Applicants must have completed their secondary school education in the Barwon Water catchment area.  Selection will be based on ATAR score and an interview.

The scholarship is valued at $20000 in total over the duration of the course, (single degree $5000 per year or $4000 per year combined course), provided that the student is enrolled full time in a majority of on-campus units and maintains a high level of academic achievement each trimester.

The successful applicant(s) should be available to complete paid work experience at Barwon Water during the trimester breaks.  The opportunity for work experience is dependant upon Barwon Water's business and operational requirements.

CPG Australia Pty Ltd Civil Engineering Scholarship
Up to four scholarships will be awarded to year 12 students entering the Bachelor of Engineering or related combined degree, majoring in the Civil Engineering Stream.
• A maximum of two scholarships will be awarded to students from the Albury/Wodonga and Shepparton region;
• A maximum of two scholarships will be awarded to students from the Barwon region.

The scholarships are valued at $5000 per year (single degree) or $4000 per year (combined course), provided that the student is enrolled full-time in a majority of on-campus units and maintains a high level of academic achievement each trimester.

The successful applicant(s) may be eligible to complete paid work experience at CPG Australia Pty Ltd during the trimester breaks. The opportunity for work experience is dependant upon the Scholarship holder’s availability as well as CPG Australia’s business and operational requirements.
